By golly, he DOES!  Can't go wrong with a dog that has his own diamonds!   And, he is awfully cute!

I think the are from GA...but no...

We bought him from a breeder...www.healthypups.com

And on the way home we passed a sign...

My hubby and our 3 kids  are soo creative lol (2 step kids age 15(B) 13(G) amd we have one together(8) all live with us)....lol

We passed a sign that said Hoots Rd. this is after I heard about 30 names...all where  blah...

and my hubby said what about Hootie...we all love it instantly!!

I got on here..because I had a few questions...

Hootie has a little cough...since we got him...it's not kennel cough and of course he doesn't do it in front of the DR. (just like a child!!) anyone have the same issues...my mom has a rat terrier and she said Gizmo (3 yr. old B) has it too... it doesn't happen all the time...very random I just wonder if it was just a rat terrier thing...

and does anyone else have dandruff?

Not sure about the cough. What kind of food is he on? Usually the low quality foods can cause flaking (Iams, Pedigree, Science diet, Pro Plan etc.) Most of the time if you switch to a high quality food with no fillers like corn, wheat and soy, the flaking will go away. Canidae, Natural Balance, Merrick, Solid Gold, Evo/Innova....just to name a few.

My dobie gets dry skin / dandruff sometimes, but I add a supplement of fish oil to my dogs' kibble, and it not only makes them LOVE to eat their dog food, the oil helps the dry skin / dandruff issue, also.

OK....not Hootie & The Blowfish, then - but cute story!!!

Regarding the occasional coughing - it could be what's referred to as "reverse sneezing". Read this excellent thread here on the subject. (http://www.rat-terrier.com/Home/tabid/37/forumid/4/postid/2125/view/topic/Default.aspx)

It is common and harmless. If you think that is not it, I'd try to capture him doing it on video and show it to your vet. Do you notice him doing it moreso after running hard or drinking water too fast? This is when my Daisy most often does the reverse sneeze, though occasionally she'll do it for no apparent rhyme or reason at all.

As to the dandruff, ratties - perhaps because of their typically thinner fur - can have some skin dryness/itchiness/allergies. Many, many of us have found that skin issues are related to the food we feed. Ratties in particular seem to have a tendency for aversion to corn/corn products. A higher quality food can have a huge impact on an improvement in their coat/skin condition.

Oh my, what a handsome fella! Russ' dandruff cleared up when I switched his food, you might try that or adding some fish oil supplements to his food.

I know Lexington, you're making me so hungry mentioning the BBQ

Never heard of it before. Can't find ANY list of ingredients for that food. It does have Omega's in it though which is a good thing and should be helping his coat. I am kind of wary that the site doesn't list what is in their foods. Do you still have the bag? You would want to avoid mainly corn/wheat/soy.
