Hi, I'm new here. I will be getting a rat terrier chihuahua cross puppy this week. Does anybody else have this cross? Her parents are both the same cross, and only weigh 3 lbs each! Were they easy to train? The breeders said hers were. Did you potty train inside or outside? I guess any helpful hints would be great! Thanks!

There are a few people here that have that cross. My full bred rattie Charlie was a little hard to train. He is very stubborn and wont do anything with out a treat. We potty trained him with pads at first but then switched him to outside. I would choose one or the other or they might get confused. Hope this helped!

Three pounds is TINY!! Cant wait to see pics of Him or Her!

My shadow is a cross breed. His parents were both cross breed. I'd say he was a little bit stubborn and still is at times. But give him a treat and he will perform for days (knowing he is going to get a treat). But since your baby is so small... I'd try the pads as it may be easier. When they are so tiny, their bladders are too and can't hold it for that long in the beginning. Also, put the pads across from each other seperately because Shadow would pee on one and poo on the floor across from it. For some reason they don't do both the same place until they get used to looking for the pads. I just gave up and started going outside which was a godsend cause he absolutely loves it. (plus the treats) Keep us posted on how it is going... She will catch on and so will you.

Hi, Sarah. A hardy welcome from Central Texas! This site is a great place for advice on raising your rat-chi mix. Can't wait to see pics! My brother-in-law in Dallas has a solid black rat-chi mix rescue that is just the sweetest little dog!

I'm getting my puppy on Friday and I'm so excited!! I'll probably spoil her rotten! Yes, I'll be sure to post pictures when I get her.  Do you let your dog sleep with you? I know crate training is recommended, but I don't know if I'll be able to pin her up!

I've got one ratchi for sure - Skipper. And Mitzy may have Chi in her. Mayfly is pure rattie.
Ratchi's seem to be very smart little munchkins.

My latest addition, Bo, was reported to be a Rattie / Chi mix at the shelter where he came from, but I think they just "guessed" that because he's so darn tiny. I think he's just a toy Rattie (which means he probably got that small from Chi somewhere in his background)
