I am new to this and wanted to ask some questions. I am a vet tech that just saved a 2 year old male Rat Terrier. The family said it was fully housetrianed, good with kids and other dogs. I brought him home last night, he did lots of submissive peeing. He also had a couple accidents in the morning and here at my work today he has had several!!!! He has been outside once an hour. Also, we had him in a crate at my house when we let my other two bigger dogs out and the rat was growling etc at them. I am for one scared to introduce them now for fear of fighting, I am scared this dog is not housetrained even though I was told he was and I am scared of the submissive peeing. He seems very sweet. Could it just be that he is sensitive to a new enviroment? I can't have him peeing all over my new house. My husband will kill me. I work with animals daily but i wanted a small, older, loving, potty trained dog. any advice or ideas?

First of Congrats and welcome! Definately sounds like you have a nervous and scared little rattie on your hands. Nora, our training moderator should be able to help. You might want to try to repost this under training. I don't have a lot of advice for you but I hope things get better for the both of you.

Congrats and welcome. I don't have any advice for you tho. I got my Bailey as a adult dog and I guess I got lucky cause she has never peed in the house once in over 3 years now. Maybe when he gets use to everything, he will do better. What's his name?

Are you absolutely sure he doesn't have a urinary tract infection?

i think he may be getting used to the environment too. my male dog has had issues with peeing too, but we're getting it under control. nora has some good threads in the training forum about urination issues if this presists. he's probably very nervous if he's a new dog among others, I know my male would be. i would give him a few days to see if this is really how he is, or just a phase he's going through.
oh, and congrats on your addition!
