I thought I would post this here, hoping maybe Morgan or another mod would see it and could help us out.   I was helping out  MEM91478 try to figure out her avatar problem today, and this one stumped me.  I'm thinking maybe.... aliens? Anyway, she resized, renamed, did everything she was supposed to and her avatar still didn't show up.  So she emailed me the picture and I checked it over.  Everything was fine so I tested it on my profile and it worked!  So I sent it back to her, she tried again, and nothing!

I know some others have avatar issues that sound similar... Nat!! So I was hoping maybe someone had a idea?  Maybe?

Mine won't work either, not even with pictures that have worked before. I think that it just doesn't like me.

ANYTHING WORTH DOING IS WORTH OVERDOING Mom of eight, only three left at home! Pack leader to ten ratties: Maggie, Mysty, Berry, Simon, Ceecee and five puppies, Star,Sari, Bluebelle, Double stuf, and Snortie. As well as Ginger the Border Collie and a herd of turkeys!

The only problem we have had with avatars is the file extension being all caps (.JPG). Has to be lower case...

Maybe her computer saved the file as caps but yours didn't?

Every time we've had an issue with an avatar not working this has been the problem.

well, I had her check the lower case .jpg problem, and she said it was lowercase. When she emailed it to me it was lowercase in the email before I saved it, I don't think going through email would change it? But I never really thought about that... could it?

Nope. Mine is all lower case and still nothing. There has to be something else going on..when the avatar problems started with me so did everything...I can't get on any post, thread, etc. w/out having to hit refresh. This is why I don't post as much anymore. And it always seems to happen when certain banners are posted.

The only other problem I can think of that we have had is with the user's computer....needs to clear the cookies/cache and/or reboot the computer.

Jan had difficulties when she used certain web browsers. FireFox has never had complaints or problems with running rat-terrier.com

I think banners must just be a coincidence...all banners are the time type and added the same way. If banners were the issue, I would also think that there would be more problems with more users. I haven't had any complaints from anyone about problems with the site or avatars.

Like I said Jan had some issues but when she changed web browsers, it solved her problems.

Sorry I don't have more answers guys....chances are if it is just one or two people than something is more than likely going on with your computer/web brower, ect.

I'll let Lance know too though...just in case.

I'm having the same problem here and at work. I just got a new computer at work and am having the issues in both places. I don't use Firefox..but the majority don't. You don't need to apologize Morgan.

Just remembered another problem but I don't think this relates to many people.

Doreen was having some issues from getting on rat-terrier.com at work, but they use mac's at work I think? Don't remember the web brower that was used though.

Not allowed to at work!  I'm not having an avatar problem (so far!) but I have to hit refresh a lot to post, etc.

Same here, MB---I can't make any changes on the computer browsers at work.  I just changed my avatar on my work computer just to see if there was a problem, and it worked.  But I also have to hit refresh a lot to finish loading a thread.

Yay!!  I had a feeling it was your web browser that was causing some of the problems.  I think you will like FireFox and it is the only web browser that I haven't had anyone have problems with rt.com.

After talking last night, I asked Lance and he thought the same thing.

Glad we solved the problem!

Why in the world wouldn't an employer let you update your web browser to the latest version? That makes no sense. "Managers" who make rules like that are the problem with the word "manager".

I'm fairly confident that the problem is that some of the javascript in the editors we use here are causing problems with some old browsers. This is why when we changed editors it solved some people's problems and created problems for others. Old, outdated browsers.

Well, I can answer for my employer. The software system that the Boy Scouts of America uses for all accounting, membership & fundraising systems will not work if IE 7 is downloaded. This software is what I use for a large percentage of my job...hence I would not be able to do it. The software itself is cumbersome, convoluted and an absolute nightmare to deal with - but it's what we use.

Lance - as a computer person you would NOT believe this freakin' software we use.....or the lack of support we get on it. I had deceased people showing up in mailing databases....people I had marked as "dead" and deleted....called computer support and the highly intelligent support person I spoke with asked me, in surprise, "but don't you want to mail to them?" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning everyone! I am brand new to this site and loving it! I too, had the "Mysterious Avatar" problem, but after reading the post here, and changing the jpg to lower case, it worked!

By the way this is Crickett, she's 10 weeks old and the BOSS! We have two rescue shep mixes, whom are 1 and 2 years old and Crickett runs them ragged! They play really gentle with her, even when she's nipping at them.

I'll keep this short as I want to continue reading 'your' post...I am discovering the world of Rat's is a whole new game! But we're loving it!

Thank you for your warm welcome! I do have another question concerning the "Photo for Profile"...I downloaded it (it's a collage of all three of our girls); but don't know what it's for or where it will show up????????????

Also what is the "Signature" in My Profile for? And how do I create one?

the photo for profile is just a picture that is only seen when someone, or you click on your profile. I saw the collage... very cute!!

The signature you already have. You put your name and a quote... Which makes me think I may be late posting this and you already figured it out... but I will post anyway in case someone else comes up with the same question
