Ok, so I was offered the job at old navy, which surprises me, but GREAT!

now to the bad news. I am in training for the full time job i work during the day until september or october. so today they tell us that our permanent schedule has been made up due to need of the company. My schedule will be 9:30 to six monday, tues, thurs, fri, and SATURDAY. Which makes my life difficult because I told old navy i could work some week nights, and SATURDAYS and sundays. My co worker works for old navy every other weekend, and she told me not to tell them. She said that by the time september rolls around, they will like me enough to make an adjustment. I feel so stupid now because I don't want to look like a bad employee. I can still work sundays, and also, i can work later around the holidays. Plus i'll have wednesdays free during the school year which could be a plus. What would you guys do? Should I not tell them yet?

I work in retail management and Sunday shifts are the hardest to fill.  That's one plus for you.  When ANYBODY has an availability change, I always ask them how long they knew about it, why, and is it permanant.  So, from the manager's standpoint, I would tell the manager...because...it gives me time to find somebody else to fill Saturday.  Be forewarned that availability changes are "just cause" for termination.  It sucks, but they're trying to run a business.  You won't look like a bad employee, just an honest one if you tell mgmt.

Oh, and one more thing.  Make sure that Old Navy understands that the job at Old Navy is important to you.  Nothing ticks me off more than when a part-time employee makes their part-time job sound unimportant to them.

ok, i'm getting both sides, which is good. i'm going to have to think about this tonight. I really do want to tell them, but at the same time, I had no idea I was going to end up with a saturday shift at my full time job, it wasn't a pleasant surprise. I'll have to figure this out.

CongRATS on the new job! See you were being way too hard on yourself after your interview. I agree with Joy, just be honest and open with them and be as flexible as you can be!!

Ok, I swear, one more thing.  The retail industry is what I love and it is truly unique.  September thru December are CRUCIAL for retail...sales are extremely high and so is stress.  If you go in in September and tell them you need Saturdays off, that means they have to find someone ASAP to fill your Saturdays.  This is going to add to the holiday stress and it won't be pretty.  July and some of August is when business is slower and  they're doing their holiday hiring...you should tell them now.  They're not going to be happy about it either way, but it's not your fault.  Good luck!

Jamie, if your heart is telling you to tell them, that's what you need to do. I wasn't thinking of things from the management side like Joy pointed out. Maybe that is best.

i really do feel that way. i'm so mad now. i actually really don't like my full time job. They hired us for completely different hours, and actually a different position all together. Our training class has had so many issues, and now we get this saturday news, which none of us expected. I actually do not want to work here after the first of the year because of numerous reasons. So getting my part time job was going to help me out when i went back to school, and I intended on keeping it for a few years.

I'd go with telling them but explaining up one side and down the other that the Saturday was totally unforseen. If you spring it on them when as the holiday crunch approaches, you won't make any friends, especially if they find out you knew about it at the onset.

I would just wait til you know you like the job. This is over 2 months away that your schedule changes.
