Hey guys! Looks like you have a pretty nice little family going on here. I have been to a few other dog forums and registered and am STILL waiting to be OK'd to even post! SO, first off, thanks to the admins for making this a public board!!
Now, I will tell a bit about myself! My name is Alicia and I am a future Rat mommy. My sister in law got a Teddy and at that moment I decided that was what I wanted for my birthday (in FEB). I got ahold of the breeder and she said that she had to mommas in the early stages of pregnancy, but told me I was welcome to put my name on one. One momma was a TR producer and the other (I believe) is not. When I got the call that the pups were born over spring break I was sooo happy! I will get to take Rocky (I've had him named since he was a jelly bean) home probably the first week of may. The TR momma lost her pups, so I think Rocky will be a regular rattie, which is fine by me! I can't wait to get him home, I am taking the week off from work to help with bonding and training and my sanity!
Does anybody have any advice for me? My biggest worry is that we are antler fanatics and they are displayed on the floor. I don't want him to chew them up, however I don't want him too shy of them because hopefully he can go antler hunting with us and use that rattie talent!! Reading these boards has really helped me prepare for him, thanks for being such great people!!

WELCOME! So glad you found us...and we cannot WAIT to see pics of your new baby! As far as any advice...there is so much great information posted...as you probably already have seen. BUT..if you have any questions at all about anything....feel free to post and you will get a TON of advice...I promise. This group is not shy and loves to help!  |

hey Alicia, welcome to the site. I'm a newbie on here as well and getting my first rattie the last day of April. You sound like me, I had CoCo picked out from the second day she was born. So you and I will be in the same boat with all the new puppy questions.

MAN! You guys are fast!! I didn't mean for my first post to have such HUGE font! LOL! My hubby and I are avid hunters (bowhunting) and our main passion in life is whitetail deer. Deer drop their antlers every spring and grow new ones in the summer, so we go out and pick up all of them we can find. Some folks collect stamps, we collect antlers. I would love to have my dog be able to pick up a few or in the least enjoy the walks in the woods with us when he is older.
I don't have any pics yet, but be sure that the first day he is home I will have aplenty!! Maggie, it's good to see another newbie! we can be like a puppy support group! lol.

| OK I would quote all of the last posts....lol. I must have an issue, my hubby only says impressive when I goof as well...lol, Im at my best when Im at my worst I guess :p Maggie, he will be my first indoor doggie, I grew up on a farm so we had outside animals and cowdogs and the like, but never an inside dog, so pretty much he's my first. I'm driving myself nuts puppy-proofing! |

| Haha You are doing the same thing I am. I swear I am going to buy everything at the Pet Store before I even get CoCo home, and I keep freaking out the something in my apartment won't be safe for her. I swear, i am soooo going ot be one of "those" dog owners and proud of it. We had dogs when I was growing up, but I;ve never had one that has been my sole responsibilty. Plus my roomate and I found out that we are "inheriting" her boyfriend's Welsh Corgi puppy, so it is going to be fun times when we get them both home. |

| WELCOME!! You are gonna find Ratties (and this site) addicting...when you can never have just one!!! I want another rattie SOOOO bad, but we have a 10yr old poodle right now and I don't think it would be fair to him to bring another pup in the picture. (He barely tolerate's Max as it is). A Rattie is the best pup you will EVER have!! Please post lots of pics...you too Maggie!!!!!!!!!!! |

You've picked a great breed for your first inside doggie. Great advise here when you need it. You'll also be amazed at the antics and personalities of ratties. They are such characters and clowns. Ernie is our first rattie and we have had a connection with this dog like no other.

I admit that I would have never thought to get a Rattie if my sis hadn't got one. I actually wanted a pug! However, my hubby's step bro & family have a JRT/German shepherd Mix dog that my hubby loves to play with, and seeing him with Odie (my sis' rattie) made me think he needed one like that and I am up for a more energetic playful dog as well. I may eventually end up with two, but I think I will wait a while before I get a second, I was planning on two house dogs anyway!
