of my little Izzy girl. As some of you know i have been working alot with Izzy my almost 1 year old rattie on crate training. She has hated it from the moment it came into the house. I have struggled for a long time with getting her trained. It has been about a month now with no luck. I finally decided that she was just going to be put in the crate weather she liked it or not. She would just have to adjust. It sounds horrible but it worked great. Monday was her first full day in the crate. She did potty some but she was adjusting. Tuesday was the same. Yesterday i came home and there was no potty or poo. Completely dry and clean. I was so proud i almost cried. I was sure she would never be crate trained and would have to find a new home for her. You guys have no idea how many times i thought about finding a new home for this girl. But i was determined and keep trying. She was such a good girl when we were home with her and never had any issues. But when we were gone she would destroy anything she could find. Other then the furniture thank goodness. But i was sooooo proud of her. i couldn't beleive she had actually done it. She went to the vet today to get spayed and i'm some what worried that we may have to start all over again but i'm sure she will continue to do great. I'm just impressed that in only 3 days she figured it out!! YEAH FOR IZZY!! She has been getting extra treats since she did so good yesterday!! And i will have to go buy her some new toys before she comes home tomorrow afternoon! |

| You know why it was finally a success? Because you stopped worrying about how she felt about being in the crate and you adopted a more matter of fact attitude! She could sense that you were unsure about the crate. Good job, mom! Just keep going as you left off before she went to the vet and she will pick it up again in no time. |

Ah, yes, the old "matter of fact" attitude - works every time I'm so glad Izzy is doing better. She may have set backs, but if you continue to approach training her in this way, it will go so much easier. Continued good luck and good wishes to you. Can't wait to hear how it's going once she's back home again. |

Sometimes, despite our best efforts... ya just have to let go and bite the bullet and let them work it out on their own. (LOVE the name "Izzy" by the way!). I had to do that with my Lil'Bit (dachshund). I did all the "right" things at all the "right" times.. and eventually just had to leave her and let her get through it. It worked. Being in the crate will never be her favorite thing... I'm fully aware of that. But at least she doesn't scream and whine and chew on the door anymore! I still have to put her in it... she won't go in on her own and she's 7 years old. I guess I feel like if this can be accomplished with Lil'Bit... it can be accomplished with any dog. I'm very proud of you... not only for giving this beautiful little girl a loving, forever, home... but for NOT giving up on her. She will make you a wonderful pet/companion... I promise! |

Yay!!! Good for you! I was thinking of Izzy this morning, because Penny stayed in her crate all night w/o whining too. *but she did pee in there* My mum is going to ship the divider from her crate, so we can section it off. |

Hooray! She might back slide a little after getting spayed, but I know you can handle it if she does. I think dogs do really well with routines. The first few times they are unsure, but once it becomes routine they accept it. CongRatulations! |

Yeah for Izzy!!!! I think I was more upset about putting Molly and Josie in the crate than they were....now they go in voluntarily sometimes just to rest.
I bet you can't wait for tomorrow night to come so you can get her back!!!! And keep her for good!!!!! |

| Three cheers for Izzy! I was having a problem with Wolfie being in his crate at night. If we let him roam free, he poops and pees and torments the cat. Poor guy would cry for over an hour sometimes. One night my husband got up, brought the crate into the family room and told me I was egging the dog on because I'd try and comfort him. Sure enough, Not a peep out of him. |

Good girl Izzy! I'm sure if we asked any of our dogs if they would rather go to a new home, because we just can't put up their assorted behavior(s) anymore.... or would they rather stay in a crate.... every one of them would choose a crate (even if they don't exactly love it ) before they would ever choose to lose their home, and the family they love! |

| I have to agree i think it was harder for me then Izzy. I always worried that she would hurt her nose or soemthing. But i thought to myself what is the worst thing that could happen if she was left in her crate during the day while we were gone? Hmm rubbing her nose and getting a sore? Or what was going to happen if i left her out to rome the house?? Um laundry every where shreaded paper? Garbage every where. Chewed shoes? Lets see i think i will take the crate. So it wasn't so hard for me to get through the barking when we would leave because no one was there to listen to her bark or whine. So she was just left to be. I think she figured out really fast that there was no one around to let her out so what was the point. LOL! I don't crate Izzy at night. She will get up and have accidents sometimes in the middle of the night mostly poop accidents. But otherwise she will sleep upstairs in my room for the first part of the night on some pillows laying on the floor next to my bed. Then the other half she will go into my duaghters room and sleep on her bed. I think it is her way of watching over both of us during the night! |
