I watch the Dog whisperer all the time and some of his tips about training dog's do work.It true about him saying the owner needs the training before the dog.Showing the dog you are top dog really works. But trying to get my 9 year old son to make Woody believe he his top dog or the domenent  one is hard to do.

I love the dog whisperer!! It gets hard to watch sometimes, like when he's dealing with an aggressive dog. I've had to deal with dogs fights, and that's a sound and sight that you never forget. I just can't watch those episodes.

It sounds like your dog thinks of your son as a playmate and nothing else. Maybe you could have your son help you train your dog. Just the basics: sit, lay down, stay, come. I always have my dogs sit before they can have their dinner...I've been doing that for a long time, and then heard Caesar say that the dog needs to submit before recieving anything, especially food, from a pack leader. If your son learns to control certain behaviors of the dogs, the dog may find it easier to believe that he really is one of the pack leaders.

Buddy - gone but never forgotten.

That is a great show! My parents introduced me to it.

I agree, I've had success with Bandit, teaching him that my 2 year old is above him in the pack order. She feeds him often & will make him lie down before giving him a toy. I supervise them closely 100% of the time & he is not allowed to push her around, rough-house, ect. with her & he knows it. She is not allowed to lie on the floor in his presence.
What problems are you having specifically with Woody & your son?

The only problem we have is Woody not taking my son seriosly. He think's it's playtime all the time with my son.I will try thing  with him feeding Woody and making him lie down first.Woody is just over 3 months old so we are still dealing with puppy excitement. His is getting so much better and you can see he just wants to do good.
