Emma or Apollo make that gaging noise. Their stomachs do this in and out thing and their heads go up and down, and it seems like they can't breathe and that they will throw up at any moment. Do ya'll's ratties or other doggies do this? What does it mean? And sometimes they don't even throw up! Not that I want them to but just saying. |

I think this is the reverse sneeze. There is a thread about it in the Training forum. Bob does this sometimes and I no longer pick him up and rush him outside. |

Yes, I agree~ sounds like reverse sneeze. My dogs do this and I use to freak out but after reading the thread I saw how many other dogs were doing this too- I no longer worry but just keep an eye on them while they make that awful sound...

Rylee does it at least once a day, makes a funny coughing noise followed by a loud hack, and nothing comes out....he looks like he feels better afterwards and I always laugh at that hacking noise....last night he did it at my parent's house, and my mom was like "what was that???" only saliva came out. They are weird dogs! |

I think it's probably a reverse sneeze too - though, I agree, that it doesn't really look anything like a sneeze! Daisy does it and I freaked out too until I read on here what it was |

| It's like they are gagging, but nothing comes out, and Bob doesn't even open his mouth when he does it. |

| Bailey does it too. I usually rush her outside, but like some of you said, nothing comes out every time, but she has threw up yellow foamy looking stuff before. |

| What Jolene is describing sounds like a reverse sneeze except my dogs never throw up then. Sometimes they swallow afterwards....some vets think this a way they have of clearing their sinuses. |

| It does seem like clearing sinuses. Shiloh does this too but she's a goof. I'm always pulling weeds, moving plants around etc. And she helps by eating the long grasses. I always worry she eats too much grass but at least inside she's only thrown up grass once. |
