Last night around 2 am, Aka came bolting out of his bed, barking and growling like mad. I mean it was a full throttle bark! Usually when he hears something, he will do a little bark under his breath type thing and I just say, it's okay and he curls back up.

I don't know if it was because he chose to sleep in his bed under the desk or what, but he came out in full battle mode. I tried to tell him it was okay but he was not having it!

Then I began to get nervous, "did I really lock all the doors?" "could there be someone/something out there?" Hey it's dark, it's 2 am, your mind plays crazy tricks on you.

I finally got the courage to get out of my bed, and go check around the house. I checked  on Mom, she was fine, breathing normally. No one in the bathrooms (esp. behind the shower curtain in the tub!!), no one in the hallway, or any where else.

I checked out the windows to see if there was someone or an animal outside but couldn't see anything. Aka is right behind me while I am doing this checking but he is very quiet. Usually he is running all around me.

We went to the kitchen and checked the back and front yards, nothing.

I looked down at him and said, "is it still here?" he tilted his head in that rattie tilt he does and then turned around and headed back to our room. I was right behind him!!  He got up in bed with me and curled up and went right to sleep so who knows?

Maybe it was a sound he hadn't heard before, maybe he had a bad dream, or maybe... well I won't go there!!

Wow, what a brave little man he was. I just hope whatever/whoever doesn't come back tonight!!!

That is cute. He is just trying to protect you. What a good little guard dog. I'm sure he thought he heard something, even if it was in his dream.

It always freaks me out when Molly does that (Josie would rather sleep than guard me!).  Molly puts on a brave front until I open the bedroom door, then I have to go down first and she tip toes behind me, lurking her neck around all the corners.  What great guard dogs I have.  At least Aka sounds like a good one!  Hope you sleep well tonight!

It's great that little Aka is such a good alarm dog. Daisy does this too sometimes. If she thinks she hears something out in the driveway, she'll wait for me to pick her up so she can look out the window of the door and make sure nothing is out there

What a brave little rattie! My German Shepherd was an amazing watchdog, but one night he really freaked me out. We had a violent thunderstorm, and the wind was howling. I kept waking up and hearing an odd noise. I'd talk myself out of panicking and fall back to sleep telling myself it was the chain hitting the flag pole in the schoolyard across the street or something metal banging in the dishwasher. The next time I wokr up, it was to a woman screaming in our living room. I couldn't wake my husband up, so I got up and made it as far as the hallway. When the woman screamed and moaned again, my big brave Mack backed up into the bedroom. I thought that if he wasn't going to check it out, I sure as heck wasn't. So, I managed to wake my husband up. When he went to investigate, Mack puffed his chest out and headed out the door first, giving a backward glance as if to tell me it was a man's job. Turns out it was a loose screen that was banging and the wind was whistling and moaning through the crack of the window.

Sorry. Long boring stoyr.

ACK! kaet, not boring at all!! You had me worried there, I was trying to figure out how a screaming lady got in your living room!! Glad it was just the wind and screens! whew!

I had a Manx cat that was solid black with huge gold eyes. She would stop playing and stare off into a corner or something and her eyes would get even bigger. I never saw anything and it always made the hair on the back of neck stand up!! gotta love our animals!!

Cheryl, I get a little freaked out too when Bella gets upset about something she heard...only because she knows all the 'normal' sounds and blows them off and doesn't make a big deal about them...but when something is wrong, she usually knows and makes sure I know too!

Same goes for other sounds that bother me though. If I hear something in the night that freaks me out but Bella is still sleeping, I don't worry as much because I figure she would have already been up and barking if it was something to worry about.

I sure hope she is always right, because now that I think about it, I depend alot on her senses, haha. She's such a bum though and sleeps through SO much!

Rocky just did that to me this evening, Hubby was on the puter and I was on the bed veggin at the TV. Rocky came in and barked, an all out bark! He kept barking until I got up and wouldnt stop until I followed him. He lead the way though and I made my hubby go with me. He hasn't yet showed a sign for going outside but maybe he just got sick of waiting tonight..... or maybe it was something outside, I had the door open with a screen door only so who knows!

Darlin, dogs do see spirit.. and sense them..

Earlier today I could tell Punkin was seeing someone here, she was looking past me into the kitchen, and by the look on her face I could tell she was seeing whomever it was....

Abby did the same thing the other night...only I head them too. It was the coyotes off in the distance. Was afraid that the cat had gotten out so went looking for her. The two big dogs were snoozing and Abby got them going. Finally all ok we got back to bed. Gotta Love them!!

Ernie seems to be more alert and edgy when hubby is out of town. He will do the same thing. I know he's alerted to something, especially when the hair on his back is up. Cheryl, I think the same thing, did I lock the doors?
It was Jan (sassys' mama) that said once...There can hear a nat fart 2 miles away...LOL!!!

If my teenaged sons try to be quiet when they come in at night, Bob will freak out like someone is breaking into the house. However, if they make a little noise unlocking the door or shutting the door, he will sleep through it just fine.
