| I was thinking about putting them up all around up to the steps at the main door...where the bird cage is. I was gonna leave the steps and walk way with out them...kind of like...gosh how do I describe it.....I guess instead of putting blinds up all the way to the end, I would stop at the banister and then put one up between the banister and house...kind of seperate the area. |

| It wouldn't hurt anything, cause you can always roll them up when you want to. I got a cheap one at KMart to put on our patio to shade the hot tub. The afternoon sun is fierce on our patio. |

Oh, I just saw this... Okay, Brandy here's what I think...
Get some white or off white sheers (you can buy it at a fabric store and make them yourself)
Hang the sheers as if they are window treatments between each post. Pull them back and tie or leave them hanging. They will look wonderful in the breeze.
You need lots and lots of plants...palms, ferns, get some flowers in the same color family with a few contrasting colors.
Yard sales are great for finding crates and small tables... you can clean them up and paint them and place plants on them or use them for drinks.
If you have wicker, even better... and create an outdoor seating area... no furniture then use big floor pillows... you can get fabric and make your own... several stores sell these for not too much money.
Hang a few wind chimes and maybe a small fountain.. and VOILE!!  |

| OH...OH...the curtains that we just took out of the boys rooms are white lace and I think that I have just enough to make it work out there.....we'll just have to see!!! |

| I think that the curtains will be pretty protected. It's on the back side of the house plus the carport is right there so, I think that will help. My MIL found some really cute tables and chairs that she thought would look good on the porch and we looked at some palm tree type plants as well. I can't wait to get it all together!! |

| Brandy, another suggestion? I love the ideas of the lace curtains but you have a lack of color... look at the pictures again. The most noticable things are the shutters and the bottom of the bird cage, also the bricks... all shades of red. Some red material to make a stuffed seat for your glider or a smaller amount to make pillows would go a long way toward tying it in. The tables, crates etc. that Shannon suggested can all be painted red to match if you want. They now make indoor/outdoor enameled spray paint and its about 2 bucks a can... 1 can is enough for two end tables! Also when making your selections on plants, go with more shades of reds, pinks and whites. Palms and ferns etc. are all shades of green, green's complimentary color on the color wheel is red. Try potted geraniums (a bullet proof plant in need of nothing more than water) and petunias too, are easy choices as they are cheap, available everywhere and come in vivid, bright reds. You may want tie backs for the sheers and could easily buy ribbon or even 1/2 a dozen red bandanas, folded in a triangle and cut in half would give you 12 tie backs. Fold the rough edge under as you tie them in place and you wouldn't even necessarily have to hem the pieces. (Can you tell I'd LOVE to come help? lol) |

All of those are GREAT idea's!! Kevin's mom said the same thing about color, she wants me to dye the curtains, but I'm not sure about that yet!! You are most DEFINITELY welcome to come over and help....especially since we are having a big cook out for mine and Blake's birthday in two weeks!!

| Sounds like a great time, let me know if you need party ideas, I have done loads of tehm. I don't think I'd go to the trouble of dying the curtains unless you want a tie dyed look, at least from my experience, whatever color you come up with will fade in the outdoors rather or not they are in direct light. Personally, I think I'd leave them white and then add brightly colored accents. Easier, faster and crisper looking when you are finished. I've tried dying all kinds of fabric and lots of colors but most often the colors don't turn out anything close to the color patch on the dyes. You have a beautiful porch though, I don't think you will be unhappy with it regardless of what you do to it out there. You have a good eye for color whenit comes to crafts and jewelry etc. this is just to a slightly larger scale. I can't wait to see what you end up with. That is a pretty spot! Whee in the world are you by the way? I'm in California. |

| Just thought of something else... humming bird feeders! They are inexpensive, the base is usually bright red and you don't have to buy the special nectar. it's just sugar water after all. Matter of fact, I feel that the red dye likely isn't good for birds and don't add food coloring to the sugar water. They find it anyway. |
