Yea!! Congrats on this accomplishment, not only for Michael but for you and his dad as well! What're his plans for post-high school?

Ah, Nora...no tears in public!!! I find myself tearing up when I'm alone and having quiet moments.

Trina: Plans? He has a full-time job as an apprentice in a machine shop, and will be attending community college in the fall (night classes)

Well, see now, now when I'm sitting here alone while everyone's sleeping and I'm watching his videos and looking at the pics - now I'm in tears. I'm so unbelievably proud of him and yes, proud of his father and I, that somehow through all the mistakes and hard times, that we may have had a small part in helping mold this wonderful young man.

He's a good person. He may not have excelled academically (but he could have - he's unbelievably intelligent), but I keep thinking how he's so kind to others (always the one to stick up for the underdog), how our elderly neighbor would always call him to help fetch things from her attic or basement and he'd willingly go and lend her hand and get the paper for our other elderly neighbor when the weather was bad so she wouldn't have to walk out and get it. How, despite all their fighting, when Mary was sick I found him in her room at 3 a.m. reading her a story.

He's all I could have ever hoped for 18 years ago when I held him in my arms for the first time.

All right....now I'm sobbing like a baby.

A mom can't hope for more than that her child becomes a loving and kind adult. Anything else he does (career, etc.) is really beside the point. I see some parents getting so uptight about their childrens college plans (or lack of) and if their kid isn't into drugs or alcohol or other criminal activity, then I say: relax, their gonna be OK!
We all make mistakes as parents, since I've never found the manual, have you? So, as we are all winging it, you have to give yourself some credit that your guidance helped him become the person he is today.

My stepson and my oldest son weren't model young men when they graduated from high school, but they have turned into men I can be proud of since then. I hope the same holds true for my youngest son. I guess they are late bloomers. They get that from their dad.
