If you want to really give your Rattie a "special treat", make these yourself! I use a bone-shaped cookie cutter.
My dogs think I'm the BEST!

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 Tbsp baking soda
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup skim milk

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder. In another bowl, mix peanut butter and milk.

Add wet mixture to dry, and mix well.

Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out to 1/4 inch thick and cut w/ cookie cutter.

Place on a greased baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool. Store in an airtight container.

* I sometimes make them a little thicker, or under bake them by 2 - 3 minutes so they arent as crunchy. Gives Dar & Lucy a little variety w/ some hard & crunchy and some soft and chewy.

here are 2 more

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies

3 c WW flour
1/2c uncooked oatmeal
2tsp baking powder
1 1/2c rm temp milk
1tbs molasses
1 1/4c pb
1/4c chicken broth

preheat oven 375, grease pan. Wisk flour, oatmeal and baking powder together. In another bowl with mixer, mix milk, molasses, pb until smooth. stir in broth. Combine dry with wet until it forms a soft dough. If dry add chicken broth 1tbs at a time. Turn onto lighty floured surface, roll and cut. Bake for 20-25 min. You can dry them out further (store longer) by placing back in a cooled oven uncovered for 8-16hrs.

LIVER & OAT TREATS

Puree in blender or food processor until smooth (I know, it really looks yucky):

1 lb. liver (chicken, beef or pork)
2 eggs

Pour into large bowl and stir in 1 c. flour and 3 c. oats.   Mix well so all oats are moistened.  Spread onto greased cake roll sheet pan (13x15).  Either wearing plastic gloves or by moistening your hands with water, spread out evenly to the edges of pan.  Bake at 350º for 12-13 minutes.
Allow to cool almost completely.  Cut into small bites with a knife.   I freeze them in a large Zip-loc bag and defrost a few each week and keep in a smaller baggie the refrigerator.  My two dogs just LOVE  these and a batch last s quite awhile!

Here are some links to cookie & treat recipes I'd saved in my "favorites" .... but haven't  ever tried any of them. I'm not a good cook for "humans" -- so I have a fear of my dogs saying .... YUCK... if I try to "improve" on their gourmet treats... even though they do seem to eat their (much less) than gourmet dinners... but then so does my hubby!

Cookies are so small...

You need a doggie CAKE!  CAKE represents the entire world of baked confectionry with a sense of awe and shock.  Yea... CAKE is the way to go.

I know there was a thread at one time about making jerky & treats in a food dehydrator... but not sure where or when it was? I found a dehydrator at Big Lots last week and finally attempted making "sweet potato chews" for girls. I thought they turned out great... and am ready to move on to trying jerky! In the instruction book I have it says to make a marinade with brown sugar, soy sauce etc. and to make sure the marinade goes clear through the meat etc. When making this just for the dogs, I don't want them having the sugar and salt from the marinade... so is this really an optional thing, or does it have something to do with preserving the meat? Anybody know the answer to this??
