| Just started tonight trying to get Bailey go "give me" a wave. I think he's gonna catch on quickly. And the stupid box? It got bigger.... haha
All from the book "How To Train the Impossible Dog" by Jane Killion..... all about motivation and "free shaping" the dog's behavior, rather than forcing it. It's been a fun (and different) experience for us both!

Gonna tell off on myself here..... As you watch this video, please pay attention to the clicker timing. It's not right. I clicked him getting out of the box instead of getting IN the box. I'm still learning about clicker training... and the timing is KEY. In this situation... although it's cute... it's wrong. Bailey could not possibly know from my clicks what behavior I was reinforcing. To him... I reinforced him getting out of the box, which was NOT my intent at all. So see? I've still got a lot to learn with this new style of training which is still foreign to me. All the years of obedience training... I never once used a clicker. The clicker was clicked at exactly the right time when he finally offered me a wave with his paw. I clicked on the behavior I was asking for.. and clicked immediately when the behavior happened. |

this is a bit sad at first but doeshave a happy ending (remember he has been severely abused in the past) . We tried getting Sonic to play "dead dog" and e looked at me so scared and started shaking and lain down and peed all over himself. We dont know for sure but are guessing that he was beat and told you are a dead dog or something??? Anyway the happy part, I started saying "sleep dog" and giving him a treat. Now we say sleep dog and he flops down to the floor and stays on his side with his feet in the air with no problems of shaking or peeing at all at all!!!
Sonic loves to pleases us and learns so fast. His tricks: roll over, shake, high five, wave bye-bye, army crawl and sleep dog. He also goes to the door and rings the bell to go outside now!!!
Sydney will not do "sleep dog" at all. Her tricks: roll over, shake, high five, wave bye-bye and for Jordan, army crawl (but the butt is way up in the air).-- she is smart but so very bull-headed. |

| How cute Nora. He's such a smart little boy. I've got Button to learn to jump into a box with clicker training, too. It's the only clicker work I've done with her, however. I really need to get back to it one of these days. |

Bailey is so handsome AND smart!!! I tried the clicker for a short while, I guess I just wasn't doing it right...didn't seem to be working so I gave up with it. I'll have to give it a try again. Great video! |
