That is not on Christmas, Thanksgiving or Easter?

Every Labor day for as long as I can remember we have has Cabbage Rolls.........My dad would start making them around 6 am and make two huge turkey roasters full........

This year with Dad in the Nursing home my husband is going to make then and we are going to bring them to him to have dinner with him.........

Another tradition that we do with the kids that we started 10 years ago is that every Halloween we make Ham and Potatoe soup or chowder before we take them trick or treating.......It is a great cold weather comfort food.........but some times even in the hot weather I crave it!!!!!!

We always have a big party on superbowl sunday over at my Dad's place. The one time we didn't have the party there was  for the superbowl in 2004. Because we were at that superbowl. And yes that  was the one  where Janet Jackson had her wardrobe malfunction  during the halftime show.

I make a 7 layer Black Forest Cake for very special occasions.  It's Mmmmmmm good and oh so pretty when sliced.  But it takes two days to put together, so I only do it for Christmas, Thanksgiving or VERY special occasions.

I think we just have the Thanksgiving/Christmas normal goop.
Turkey (I brined the turkey last year. Was fantastic!!)
Ham of various types...sometimes we just do a regular ham, sometimes its got pineapples, grown sugar and cloves, sometimes its honey baked, and recently, I found this montmorency cherry ham glaze that is to die for!! It's Crosswell's, and everybody loved it.
Green beans (though I refuse to eat Jason's aunt's VINEGAR GREEN BEANS, and I like vinegar - a lot!) or green bean casserole
Mashed potatoes and gravy...after 30 years of protest, my grandmother is still trying to get me to eat her gibblet gravy, which I refer to as "organ gravy"
Sweet potato casserole
Squash casserole
Rolls
and my all time favorite...
7 layer salad

We vary with desserts each year.

On new years day, my grandmother always fixed cabbage rolls and...er...black eyes peas, I think. I don't like any peas except for the green varieties, so I haven't a clue. They usually cook out a mess of food on memorial day or the 4th of July that consists of grilled chicken, ribs, hamburgers, hotdogs....you name it. There are usually only 4 of us there, so she ends up feeding half the street, LOL.

I really really want Peggy to invite me for a special occasion so I can have some of the 7 layer black forest cake!! How good does that sound! YUM!

Hmm a non-holiday type food tradition?  I would have to say Sunday nights after church my Mom and Dad would take turns making something special.. usually Fried Oatmeal, Pecan Waffles or Hot Cornbread in Milk.

That was so much fun for us kids!

Penny, I made the "lazy" version (4 layers) for Lance's birthday on Sept. 1st. Almost as good and a whole lot less trouble. And boy was it ever good! I better hush or I'll need to set an extra place for you and Mitch at Thanksgiving. LOL

On Shrove Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday) is Fastnacht (sp?) day.  We have donuts!  Tradition was it meant to use up the fats and sugar before the Lenten Fast.  But we are heathens, and now it's just a fun family tradition!

Well this is my most special food that I make just whenever....ok it sounds really really gross but I promise it is great! My grandmother used to make speagatti and it was the best so now I make it. The sauce is ground beef with green peppers and onions and then you take ketchup and just a little vinager. Mix it all up with your noodles and it is yummy. When I got married and I fixed it for my hubby he LOVED it

My family has a fall Sunday dinner tradition.  Every Sunday we have homemade baked macaroni and cheese and baked acorn squash.  The mac and cheese has layers of elbow mac, sharp cheddar cheese, cornflake crumbs and butter.  The top layer is a crispy crust of cheese, cornflake crumbs, and butter.  Hmmmm, I getting hungry just writing about it.

When we go camping (and I don't mean roughing it anymore, I'm too old, we go in our trailer) I always fix "fluffernutter" sandwiches at least one day, peanut butter and marshmallow cream for my kids (now 7,10,12 & 14).

Then, there's St. Patricks day.  It's a totally green dinner.  Lots of green milk, green butter, green casseroles (tuna noodle works well) and green pudding.  One year I even made my sons PB&J sandwich green for lunch...........he politely asked me not to do it again.

Finally, for Christmas we always have what my Grandma called depression pudding - steamed carrot pudding with hard sauce.  Just the smell makes me feel about 5 again!

What a fun thread...........I'm sure I have more, but it's what sticks out to me right now

We have a tradition with food in regards to the Cleveland Browns. We have season tickets and so do most our friends, so the last home Browns game of every year we deep fry turkeys. Sometimes we lug everything downtown and fry in the muni-lot. One year it was a blizzard and we were there deep frying our turkeys!! Last year we tail gated in our back yard and fryed there. We make 3 different brines the night before and the day of the game drop them in the fryers. It so fun, we look forward to it every year.

When my Mom was alive and well, on St. Patrick's Day, we'd meet at our local Irish Pub (called Romeo's at the time) and have corned beef and cabbage and a few Irish Coffees!!  (Well, OK, I had a few more than her.........
