This is my 2nd rescue and 3rd Rattie... she was a CL listing. It was horrible and my husband was completely against it but I couldnt let her be! I saw her listing on Thursday night and friday Morning I drove to scottsdale  to get this little girl. Lacey had a decent home with an elderly couple ,their daughter  bought them a male RT 4 months ago who was un-neutered. Lacey is not spayed, as it was told to me Lacey and Rocky were found stuck together (which im assuming was a tie) and the owners daughter did not want  her parents to have to 'deal" with puppies and was advertising lacey on CL as a possible pregnant female who was going to AC if no one bought her... well red flags for me went up because 1 some puppy miller was going to jump on that train or2  someone wanting little snacks for dog fighting bate was going to snatch her up... so I went paid for her and took her home. Shes a fantastic bundle of joy.. they had found them tied about 3 weeks ago according to the daughter and the mother tried to pull the male from her (OUCH) they are 87 and had no clue... my dilemea is this, I have ZERO expierence with pregnant dogs NONE and there are already a TON of unwanted dogs in this world... I am going to the vets on wensday to discuss a possible spay/abort. Is this too late to do this? I know dogs do not share the same emotions humans do... but I cant help but feel horrid and cruel for even considering this my husband right now finds me heinous for even having the thought in my head, but I already am completely in love with her fur but and only want whats best for her... lola and winston already LOVE her!

I don't know what the vet will say as far as the time line on spaying I know gestation is 63 days or so. I just found this site that has vets on line to answer questions they might have more info for you.  Let me know how it goes.  Bless you for saving her. The site is called: Dog.JustAnswer.com

First, thanks for saving her. What an angel. Your vet will know what to do. Listen to him/her and listen to your heart.

How old is she? Do you think you can find responsible homes for the pups? Way too many questions to think about. You could end up with a lot of pups in your house and never want to part with any!!

She is 2, well I know that at least one pup has a great home right here but that is my limit... 4 dogs are only allowed by my HOA and that is my issue well my husbands issue with it... he/I know that I am going to have a VERY hard time parting with any of the puppies. Maybe I could go through one of the RT rescues? I could keep them here and maybe one of the groupds could find SPECTACULAR homes for the pups and the adoption fee could go to them? I dont know, alot to think about.

Do you have pictures yet? I hate it when I post something and think of one more thing after I hit the submit button!!! I want to see your new baby. Being that she is 2 I would think she should be able to handle pregnancy and all!

Here's an article I found online that you might find slightly helpful,

www.marvistavet.com/html/body_pregnancy_termination.html

"Ideally, the female should be out of heat but not in advanced pregnancy."

You are not cruel or horrid and your husband should be slapped upside his head.  You're wonderful for saving her and you obviously have the dogs best interest at heart and whatever you decide,  she is much better off.

Thanks for your imput everyone, I am sure she could handle a pregnancy she isnt too small about 11- 12 lbs, it's me im worried about, I have no clue what to do/expect etc etc especially if something god forbid went wrong. Like Ivy said who even knows if she 100% is. In the meantime until I get to my vet on wends. are there any precautions I should take with her any special care just in case? Everything I read online pertains to the last few weeks in pregnancy. I have her vaccination records she is UTD on everything, I just dont know what they thought would happen bringing an un-altered male into the house? I know some of you must think i got in over my head here and I did but I did it in her best interest. I live in Arizona and I am constantly seeing Pitbull fighting rings making the news and TONS OF BYB and straight up puppy mills here that are in the shadows and dont make the news. any one of those types of pplwould have loved to get their grubby mitts on her Im going to get pics first thing, Im just waiting for my digital to charge!

I don't think there is any thing special you need to do right now just feed good food and let nature do the work the vet will tell you everything else on Wed. Bless you for saving her and possible pups from who knows what. Can not wait to see the new addition!!

I feed a raw diet (natures variety) and rotate with kibble between wellness orijen and Evo... i cant find anything on raw diets and pregnancy, i wonder how much i need to give her?

not sure of the amount but you do feed the best!!!! I would just go for the regular amount for her size for now maybe a little extra you don't want her to pack on extra pounds. Keep her in good physical condition and that will make whelping easier. Is she comparable in size with your others? If so I would just keep up the good work!!

Maybe no decision will need to be made. Listen to your heart and Vet I am sure you will do what is best for the little Laceyl. I kind of feel sorry for the old folks who had her, the daughter just getting rid of their little girl I am so glad you found out before someone "bad" came along just to use her. Why the heck did she bring an unneutered male in to the house with an unaltered female. What was she thinking??? One of my friend has been trying for 2 years to breed her ratties and it just will not take. She is going to get the female spayed soon. So not every mating produces pups. I feel for you I don't know what I would do. Very hard decision. I don't want to influence your decision one way or the other but I would just pray for 1 pup to be produced then I would not have to chance re homing them with strangers who may or may not take as good of care as you or I would!! Silly huh!

Between days 28-32 the vet may be able to palpate her to possibly determine if she is pregnant.

Preganancy might not occur on one tie alone, which is why breeders generally try for at least 2 and sometimes 3 ties.

If she is preganant, and you decide to go ahead with the litter, if you need help with the whelp, I live in NW Phoenix, feel free to get in touch with me. I can't say that I'd take a pup, already have two "ratterrorists" of my own.

A spay/abort may be pricey. Get a price from your vet first. I was a breeder of Golden Retrievers for 15 years and have used the same vet for over 25 years - he's very reasonable.

How big was the male? That is something to consider, especially as if the pups are big she might need a c-section which can be very pricey.

I read on here a few times that pregnant females should start eating puppy food....if you find out she is pregnant and you don't spay her then I would post in the Breeders Forum for advice. I'm sure you'll do fine if there are puppies.

Good luck on your decision and if you decide to go ahead spay - do NOT let anyone make you feel bad about that. I know you'll make the best decision you possibly can for your little girl.

That daughter that gave the elderly people unaltered dogs is idiot and a fool and I have zero patience for those people.

Some people ignorantly assume it will be no problem to keep two unaltered dogs apart when the female comes into heat. They learn the hard way how difficult it is to do in reality.

When I was a child and we had an unaltered female Pekingese, she always seemed to be in heat. This was a tiny town with a population of maybe 300 people and probably 600 dogs and back then NO one kept their dogs behind fences or on chains.

My mother would keep Queenie confined to the house when she was in heat, not even letting her out to potty. Yet all these male dogs would show up at the house, urinating on the front porch and fighting in the front yard. It was insane.

This was 30 years ago though, I had hoped people were better educated, guess not.
