Help! I have a 15 week old female rat terrier named Poki. I have had her since she was 10 weeks and we just can't get the potty training down! She only has pee accidents but she has them frequently. Ever time I take her out she will pee, she could pee 50 times a day. But sometimes I'll take her out and she will pee and then she will do it in the house 15 minutes later. Before I got her she was primarily an outside dog and loves being outside so I am worried she is not making the connection the she goes out to pee and not necessarily to play. When she does pee outside I will praise her and immediatly bring her in for a treat and then take her back out to play. If she pees in the house I tell her no and immediatly take her out but it just seems to not be working. Any helpful ideas??

Welcome to you and Poki Glad you found us!

Are you using a crate? If not I highly recommend it (you can read all about it in the crate training thread pinned to the top of the training forum). There are also threads on housetraining - especially with "new" puppies.

Some quick thoughts I have: I would discontinue play time outside until she gets it that the outside is for pottying. At her young age, you should be able to get most of her play time taken care of indoors. Also, if you would like her to get outside for some exercise/play, I would suggest using a different door, if possible, from the one you use to take her to potty, and go for a walk to a different area. She needs to learn to associate that when you take her outside to a certain area of the yard that what you are expecting of her is for her to go potty.

Once inside, I would recommend using a light leash to keep her physically attached to you so that you can immediately see when she is attempting to potty and you can get her outside immediately. If you are busy and can't have her leashed to you or watch her very closely, then crate her. You want to eliminate her ability to have accidents inside, or at least, limit accidents that you can't immediately correct and follow up with by taking her to the appropriate place.
