Hey as you know I have three ratties....well Chance is the WILDEST!  He has so much energy.  Bailey and Syd do not jump but Chance can jump really really high.  I was talking to my husband and we would like to get Chance  started into some agility.  I know NOTHING about it.  He runs really fast and can jump high so I am thinking this maybe a way to get out some of his energy.  Does anyone know of someone in NC that does this training??  Thanks for your help

Hollie

Sorry.... I'm not familiar with the NC area, but I would do a Google search for agility venures in your area and see what you come up with. Don't rely a lot on how high a dog can jump, because it's not about how *high* they jump but it's more about how accurately they jump. Bailey measures 12-1/2 inches at the withers and the AKC jump height for him is 12 inches. He can jump MUCH higher than that, but it's not safe for him to do so repeatedly. It's very hard on their joints. So if you want to practice with Chance... start low and work up to about 12 inches and no higher.

I did a search and didnt find anything...so should I build something in our back yard.....where do I start? Ok the jumping thing...does that mean jumping up in the air or jumping distance....

Distance isn't really a factor. You want the jump (the bar) to be no higher than whatever the regulation height for your dog is, and that's based on what he measures at the withers.
You can build them with PVC pipe .. they aren't hard to make. Or.. you can start with a hoola hoop.

Maybe one of those will help...If none of these are near you, you could probably contact a few of these and see if they know of anyone that holds classes in your area. The agility community tends to be small, and just about everybody knows everybody in a region.

Good Luck
