Lily just had her first vet apt and she has a parasite called cocci something. It could take her. I cannot deal with losing another dog! My daughter would not be able to handle it. No way. She is on antibiotics and seems fine other than the diareah. Hopefully it will go away. And hopefully Stormy doesnt catch it either. Im so sad and scared.

Coccidia is very treatable. Alice had this when we first got her at 2 years old. It mostly affects puppies but it should not be fatal. The vet should have given her antibiotics to control the parasites and I belive treatment is 1-3 weeks if I remember right. Alice was super thin and infected with coccidia when we got her and she is fine today. It should not be fatal in anyway so dont' worry to much. Good luck!

I'm sorry she is sick, but like Val said, try not to worry too much. With treatment she should be just fine. Here is a ling to information on coccidia: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?articleid=727

Glad you took her to the vet and are getting this taken care of!  We've had dogs with this before... it's treatable and not too serious, but I know it is worrisome.   Pooch runs are not fun either.

Think her previous owner knew? maybe that's why they were so eager to get rid of her? Hope she gets better soon.

Coccidia is contagious to other dogs and cats.  The kitten that someone dropped on our doorstep has it, and she is now starting to bounce back after two weeks of Albon.  The biggest problem is if they get dehydrated.  I gave the kitten unflavored pedialyte just to be sure the electrolytes are covered.  I hate parasites!  I hope she gets feeling much better very soon.  Keep giving her water and food, too.  Did they worm her also?
