OK, I just happened upon this site yesterday after googling rat terriers and with such good information and such good people who definitely love their rat terriers, I couldn't resist. So..... hopefully....my wonderful husband is bringing my puppy home tonight. I'm on pins and needles waiting for her. One of the scary things is I was already thinking of the name of Button for her, then I saw a post from Peggy who is Mom to a Button AND my name just happens to be Peggy, too. So, it just sounded like fate to me. I have been taking care of my 85 yr old Mom with dementia since March. I quit my full time job as a legal secretary in order to do this. My husband was working at the time for a papermill for the past 19yrs. Then in July they decided to close the mill down. So, with me out of work and now he was out of work it all seemed very daunting. We knew that I couldn't go back, Mom is too dependent on me, and so he looked and looked and finally found a job that he really loves. Smaller paycheck, but it's straight days and an inside job fixing industrial electric motors. He really likes it there. Anyway, I digress. I have 2 dogs (rescues) that stay in our backyard all day and inside in their crates at night. Also have 4 cats that come in and out (kitty window). Mom lives next door to my husband and I, so it was very easy just to move over here and stay with her. I go back and forth to feed animals and such. Hubby comes and goes as he pleases. but Mom and I wanted something we could take care of and after many days and nights of careful consideration I can to the conclusion that a rat terrier would be the best for us. I would have loved to have rescued one, but I felt with the other animals a puppy might be adjusted to better. I hope that's the case. Anyway, hopefully by the time this posting is sent my new puppy will be here. I have enjoyed this group so much already and am sure I will be needing each and every one of you to give me advice and support. By the way, I live in southeast Louisiana. Glad to see some other folks from this part of the country!! Go TIGERS!!

Welcome to the site, Peggy!  Wow, that really IS a coincidence about the names and all.  We're retired teachers in Central Texas just north of Austin.  My 4 y.o. is actually named Buttonbutt on her rregistration papers, but we call her Button for short.  Zipper, my 1½ y.o., is my shelter rescue.  Can ya tell I sew?  You and I must be about the same age, too, as my Mom is 83.  She lives in San Antonio.  Can't wait to see all your pics when you get your new puppy!
