Hi All,
New to the sight and the breed. We adopted Maisey 3 months ago and have been having a BLAST!! She is 19 months old, house broken and a sweet beautiful girl! With me being new to the breed, I was wondering if I should get her a sweater to wear on walks? AND how cold does it have to be before one would be necessary? I live in southeast so it's never frigid outside, but can get the cold. (lowest probably 28-30). She is an inside dog and only goes out with us to walk, etc..
Thanks!

welcome to rattieland!!!!!!! i think you really have to base the need for a sweater on your dog personally if she nshakes like crazy when shes out that would be a good indication but it really just depends on the dog i live in nw IN and my dogs dont wear clothes but theyve never appeared to need one plus some dogs will fight you tooth and nail against cloths so if you think she needs clothes buy a cheap baby t-shirrt at the dollar store and see how she reacts to that before you go the expense of nicer clothes |

Hi! Aren't they the sweetest girls? My Macie is 4yrs old. We live in San Antonio and she wears her pink coat, with tan fuzzy collar whenever we go out. She likes to ride with me whenever I go anywhere. I just figured she needed a sweater since she was always getting under thick, soft blankets. When we come home from going out and I take her coat off, she heads for a blanket. We're military, so we'll be moving to Ohio next summer. I'm sure we won't see much of her during the winters! haha I did buy a cute little pink sweater with a snowman on the back of it. for this winter LOL
My poor sweet girl, she's just a tad over weight (okay, okay, okay, so we tease about her being a FATterrier......)anyway, when she's wearing her pink coat, she sort of looks like a little pink piggy. LOL We're snacking on green beans and carrots to try to lose this weight!

I don't know about anyone else, but nora really shivers in the cold weather which just hit NY by storm (litteraly). I don't even know if the sweater is enough, I wonder if I could find a thermal top for her. |

| I know that my Ivy needs a coat or she will shiver like she is frozen to the bone. She really does not like them a whole lot yet but it does stop the shivering. I live in Seattle and it is getting colder. She seems to be getting a thicker fur coat so maybe she will not need it maybe she will. |

| I live in Western Oregon and while it usually doesn't get frigid cold here in the winter, we do get lots of rain. Rowdy will go out in the cold, but always come in shivering and I feel bad for him. But, when it's raining out, Rowdy refuses to go out in the rain! The first time I bought him a jacket, my BF laughed at it and thought the whole thing was silly. One week later, I cam home from work and noticed the jacket had mysteriously moved to over by the door... Rowdy absolutely refused to go out in the rain without the jacket for even the BF!!! I don't dress him in warmer weather, but he likes his clothes in the cold. |

I live in Nebraska...it gets pretty darn cold here in the winters. Both Julia & Caesar wear sweaters when they go outside or places with me...seems like the shiver very easily. Anyways I got them cute sweaters from Wal-Mart for only $5 each. They really are cute and just as good as paying the Petco/Petsmart prices! |

| WELCOME TO RATTIELAND! I'm in Florida it doesn't get really cold but it was in the upper 40's low 50's this morning and two of mine were cold. My little 3 month old Nala, shivered and shook and I put her sweater on til she got warm. Cutter my 10 year old gets cold too but doesn't like clothes so he does his business quickly and is back in the house. We have a big back yard for them to go in so don't have to worry about walks when it is cold. My other 2 don't seem to get cold, Rattagan has a thin coat of fur but stays warm enough, if he gets cold he wants under his blankie. Cameo has a thick fur coat so she doesn't get cold much if she does she too prefers her blankie or my bed instead of clothes. |

We live in Wisconsin and ours need sweatshirts, sweaters, fleeces and even boots when it gets cold. They wear t-shirts if it is a bit chilly but love their hoodies in the cold. |

| Welocome to RT.com I live in Kansas where the weather changes fast and if I think Toby is cold (his ears feel like ice cubes) I put his sweatshirt on him. He warms right up and is happy. I have a nice warm pet bed for him so he stays nice an snuggly. He has to wear a rain jacket to go outside in the rain but loves his hoodies in the fall and winter. |

I live in GA and yes your rattie needs a sweater. They are wimps in the cold! I already have been putting sweaters and sweatshirts on them in the am when it is getting cooler. Tinkerbelle wears a fleece coat in the winter and I'm sure I'll have to get coats for my little boys this winter, they are 3 months old right now. |

Welcome! I'm also in the southeast (upstate South Carolina) and my Sophie started shivering about three weeks ago. The sweaters aren't really enough, but I'm keeping them on her because they help a little... But like humans some ratties seem to do better in cold weather. If it gets under 60, Sophie needs a sweater. She gets chilly if it's under 70. With other ratties it might be 40 or so. But I think all of them need some protection when it gets down to the 30s and under. |

Hello there and congratulations! We live in Florida and Fuji gets cold. Under 70 he gets a T-Shirt. At around 55 he wears a little light jacket. I also have sweaters for him. The few days we have when it gets in the 30's, we layer him. |
