For those of you that have followed my previous threads on Oreo's lack of signaling to go out/peeing/pooping in the house....today, while she did actually get away from me and poop (and then clean up after herself, she later rang her bell loud and proud and then proceeded to pee outside!!  YEAH!!  I am hoping that is a breakthrough.  I didn't scold her for the earlier mishap, but I did immediately brush her teeth.  I have done that a couple of times after she has eaten it.  I am hoping that she will associate the fact that she gets her teeth brushed (which she hates) each time she eats it?  Wishful thinking? Expecting too much of a dog....maybe....but what else do I have to go with!

Just wanted to share....

Yay Oreo! Good job ringing your bell! Hey at least she cleans up after herself. For the LONGEST time Yaz would poop everytime we left her alone in the house. Knock on some wood somewhere......she hasn't done it in a really long time.

Yaz is a cat poop lover too. We use feline pine cat litter. Can pine hurt her? She doesn't get in it much.

Carrie -- try taking Oreo out on a 25-30 foot long line. You can purchase them at Petsmart relatively cheap. This will allow Oreo freedom, and yet give you control so that when she finishes, you can quickly guide her away from it and give you a chance to clean it up before she can get to it. (I often use ziplock baggies for this purpose).

Good thoughts being sent your way and hopefully you'll see more and more success as time passes. GOOD FOR YOU for not scolding her! I know that was probably your first instinct... but you were wise not to.

Sounds like progress to me! What do I know? Anyway, glad Oreo is learning the bell ringing. Sorry about the poop eating. Savanna still does that once in a while. And NO brushing her teeth hasn't helped. She LIKES having her teeth brushed. Crazy little dog!!!

Thanks everyone! I'll keep you posted on her progress...
We are also comtemplating new carpet throughout...we need it anyway, but I was hoping that maybe then her scent would be gone. I do use Nature's Miracle, but I'm sure she can still smell her stuff. Plus, we had a dog beforehand who was very ill toward the end and lost control sometimes, so she probably is smelling that too. My mom thinks I'm crazy for putting up with this, but she isn't really a pet lover....she doesn't understand....
