Are you a breeder? Are they registered? Were the parents tested? And are theses pups from the same parents or mother as the ones you posted at the end of '07 and the ones you posted at Easter time earlier this year?

Weird....
I think they are just wanting to use this forum to sell their puppies on...
Doesn't exactly set well with me... but hey... lots of things that are not illegal are not ethical.

I remember the earlier postings about puppies.  And yes, it seems like the poster may just use this forum to sell puppies.  I would be curious to hear the answers on the registration, testing, etc.

i too remember those postings...
but as a someone who is in Marketing can i ask you ladies a question?... whats the big deal?
if i do remeber correctly cphillips was a breeder... now i understand that personally some people dont want to read "ads" of puppies for sale that arent in the breeder section... but this wasnt an ad... more a whats to come with photos...

so why cant someone use this forum to sell puppies? if the puppies are ratties... and this is a rattie forum isnt it the best avenue to reach your target market... rattie lovers?! I would rather see rattie puppies sold to enthusiast and a group of RT lovers like us and our network of friends/family than people who dont care at all...

just my $0.02... i read the responses above and saw this going in a bad direction that i didnt think was neccessary... now you know i love you all... my RT.com family... but cphillips hasnt done anything but breed a few litters, get some interest with a "whats coming" thread... we just need to sit back and enjoy some photos, ask some unbias questions and be happy... =)

Just speaking for myself here....my only issue is are they breeding the SAME dogs so soon. I got Yaz from a breeder and would LOVE to get another from the same breeder. I have nothing against responsible breeding. I think rescuing is fantastic but not for everyone. I am just concerned if they are breeding the same dogs. That's it.

oh amy... i agree... and the questions arent an issue... thats why i said we just need to sit back and enjoy some photos, ask some unbias questions and be happy... =) thats what this is about... sharing, asking, learning... and cphillips should have no issues to answer what was asked... i just read the compilation of threads and it seemed to be leading down a bad road as a whole... lol

nothing particular to what any 1 person said but all 6 read together almost seemned like an attack even though im sure it wasnt meant to be.
<<<< peace keeper... lmao...

btw.. how does lance feel about "selling" on forum? i know the breeders section is an "informative" section... but can you sell there? should there be a "for sale" section for people coming on to try to sell and/or surrender pets? a section SPECIFIC to that?

***edit button*** i mean for all animals... i used to be on a forum for cars and we had a section where you can list anything you wanted... like a craigslist... so it could be crossed with any animals for sale / surrender... just a thought

Me too, Amy. My main concern with posting that many litters within so few months is that they belong to the same parents/mother, which I believe is a legitimate question. As is asking, when others might not think to do so, pertinent questions regarding the purchase of a puppy such as those that involve the parents' background, and health.

If this were a car forum and someone posted they had a 1965 Mustang for sale, it would be legitimate to ask how it was cared for, whether it had been wrecked, etc. So I believe it is not improper to ask a breeder the questions I did, whether or not I am intent on getting a puppy.

I just have a hard time getting excited over more dogs coming into the world knowing at 4:00 today 3 innocent, well socialized lovable ratties are going to die in a shelter in Georgia becuase there is no room for them anywhere.

Surely it's not the same dog having all these puppies so close together in time!
Maybe the poster will come back and expound on the situation a bit more...

I have no problem with ethical breeders (I got my Mayfly from a breeder) or with them advertising their puppies on here...it's a rather logical place to advertise.  My questions were meant to find out more info on the breeder and their dogs....to ascertain if, indeed, they were an ethical, educated breeder...so that anyone interested in the poster's puppies would have more information in making a decision.

again totally understood and it is the right thing... i just wanted to say something before cphillips came back in and read this and got offended or felt attacked... for me of all people to read this and get that feeling i think that says something... everyone should be able to agree that when you read 6 threads basically saying the same thing and referencing your own threads from a year ago... you ownt see questions... you see implication... just wanted to clear the air... and i dont think ive done that =/

I agree. We want to know the milage on a car, why not the "milage" on the mom. Actually I think there should be a seperate thread for folks who are posting litters to sell. For that matter, anything to sell. Perhaps there should be a format/template to answer certain questions before posting puppies for sale. Just my 2 cents!

What's a "fean" Gianni?

You know, I thought about what you said...how it sounds to the poster....and I put myself in their shoes.  If I was a legatimate, ethical breeder who was doing it the right way...I would be slightly embarrassed that I had not explained myself enough and I would quickly explain...not the same female having litters so close together, yes I did testing, etc.

So, let's hope this girl comes back and explains.  Then we'll all look at the pictures of the cute puppies.

I think a "for sale" section under the breeder section would be a good idea, but I think that some of the moderators would think that we would become a puppy selling site rather than a site for existing owners.  Also, we might be inundated with sales ads that probably would cost $$ to advertise elsewhere.

I won't say anything negative about this breeder, as I was a first time breeder myself and I feel I was treated very well at this site after some major arguments and fall out happened right before I posted about my litter.  Maybe everyone was scared to be mean to me.  Anyway, I won't be negative.  I do think that breeders who are in home breeding for the love....may not be as well educated as the "professional" breeders.  I was trying to find information everywhere when I made the decision to breed and it would have been nice if some of the "professional" breeders were more willing to put information out there.

I think it is Ok to ask about the parents, health, etc...  I also think that cphillips has had a litter every 6 months or so.  If she is using the same dam, then some of the breeders on here might want to tell her how often they breed their dogs and why or why not, she might want to re-consider breeding her on every heat cycle.  Maybe she does not realize that it is not in her females best health interest to breed back to back to back.  I'm hoping that she does not let her dogs breed again this spring.  I have heard you should only breed every other heat cycle.  I know someone who bred her female 3 times in 2 years and her vet told her to give her dog a full year off.   It might be that it is difficult to separate your male and female, so spaying or neutering might be necessary.

Carol - everyone treated you nicely because you did it the right way!  You tested, waited until your girl was old enough, had the time and resources to care for the litter, chose a male that was old enough and had been tested, etc.

I don't think anyone on here (at least I hope) has a problem with an ethical breeder...whether they breed their dog only once or have many litters with different dogs at different times.  Afterall, we all love the rat terrier breed and without good, ethical, responsible breeders....ratties would cease to exist.

But for those who breed for the wrong reasons or unethically or irresponsibly  - well then sorry....I care more for the health and welfare of the breed and that "breeder's" dogs than I do for the feelings of the person making bad choices that can adversely effect their dogs....and dogs to come in the next generations.  If that is not "PC" then tough.

you know I can't believe my eyes. I thought this was a group of freindly people who LOVE ratties. Which I do. I love mine as if they were my kids. which they are. The are as spoiled just as much if not more than anyone elses Ratties. Yes I am the breeder, Yes they are the same parents. Yes they are registered and yes they have been tested and three weeks old they have been to the vets twice, once for check up and once for tails cropped. So I do take care of them. Probably more so than some of you. As for the pictures. ....well none of you deserve to see them. You are rude. If they were not Ratties I would not be here, If I did not Love them I would not be here . I love this breed more than any other dog. I have raised Wolf Hybrid's, dobermans, shepards and poodles. These are the best companion I have ever had. I have never been so upset as I am at you bunch of ....whatever...I will not return to this forum again. I have other people who do love my dogs and would love see how they grow. By the way I only adopt to worthy parents.....after long time of knowing the person, and thier family, they must come back with family more than a few times. and after I see how they live also., not a one day come pick out your pup and take it home thing. Many of our adoptive parents have actually come over and spent dinner with us and there hopefull new addition. I take pictures of them and have photo albums of all. I keep in touch with every one of them. Maybe you people should really think about what your going to say before you say it. Some people get offended and  actually hurt. Which I did. So have a nice life. I will. With my Ratties.....

whoa dramatic much?

i think this thread started off pretty rocky and harsh...
but i think they were all valid questions and they made a point to make it clear, that they were simply questions (because i don't remember you really, so i don't know anything about you, i was rather curious as well... but simply curious)

and on another note, i think your reply to this was rather rude and just adds fuel to the fire
they at least explained the reasoning behind their posts when questioned
