That tries to take dogs off the E list in Franklin GA. There are 3 dogs listed as Jack Russell mixes but they are clearly (at least to me) RT Mixes if not Full RT. Why are people so Ignorant! Some one just dropped them off in a box, it INFURIATES ME!

I emailed the shelter to inquire about all 3 and ask if they would agree to hold until rescues could perhaps coordinate a pull and foster....wait and see.

All that can be done...wait and see.

Ya'll..here's the My Space notice on the 3 in Franklin,Ga....that Jaclyn posted..Thanks Jaclyn!

THIS ANIMAL CONTROL CLEANS OUT FRIDAY'S!
Heard Co Bulletin for Sept 24
From: cherryharley saving animals one life at a time

These dogs and cats are at Heard Co Animal Control in Franklin, GA

Heard Co only has 8 dog runs and these animals are in danger of being euthanized on Friday after the 3 day
mandatory hold period

Heard Co is very rescue friendly and adoptions are easy (you can Western Union the fee - you don't have to go to the shelter in person) so if you are interested in one of these dogs or cats please call Kaylene or Angela ASAP

Adoption fees range from $100 - $195 (HUH?! Seems alfully HIGH for a strapped shelter?)) based on the
animal's gender and size and includes spay or neuter,
rabies vaccination, and microchip.
Only $25 of this goes
to animal control, the rest is vetting fees (lousy/greedy vets in that area I guess...sad sigh)

That adoption/pull fee is obnoxious. I am confused... if they plan on doing the unthinkable and euthanizing the dog....why wouldn't they just give them to a rescue group (not a private person) if a rescue group inquires about them? In short to me that is saying that the shelter would rather put the dog down than give them to a group for no fee or a dramatically reduced fee, I mean isn't it costing them MORE to euthanize the dog rather than just give them to a rescue with the hopes the animal will find a terrific home? Again I ask what is wrong with people???

Hey Jaclyn! just messaged you on My Space! "Winston" by the way, is so handsome! You MUST post his pics on here so everyone can see him! Thanks for saving him! Puppymills are sick!

Speaking of sick...a lot of places (animal control facilities esp) GAS (carbon monoxide)...mass gas, in old trucks, barrels, trailers...just cram them in and turn it on overnight....some don't die 'cause they are crushed together (think Germany/Poland-Holocaust). It's cheap. And outlawed in many states and counties. Ga has counties that allow it I am told. South Carolina too...Ala also....but have been told even Michigan!

(Animals are "PROPERTY" in the US...until that is constantly challenged it won't change.)

Not sure what the laws are in Arizona?

BY the way....There are several Rattie Rescues who sure could use Arizona volunteers...for anything you might have time for...hehheh! (Hmmm...maybe you'd better stay away from this site....LOL! You'll get sucked in!)

Thanks for the help! Now....those PICS of Winston???!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, I just emailed all this info to the Georgia State Coordinator and other Georgia volunteers for New Rattitude Rescue.  If anything can be done at this late date they will accomplish it.  (And yes, breaks are usually given by shelters to rescues as far as pull fees, etc.)

Thank you for posting this!! And thanks Diane for being "on top of things" as usual with rescues.

Heard back from one of our shelter surfers and she's checking on them...this shelter does NOT hold for rescues so they are indeed very urgent. Don't know if we have a foster home open for them either....

That is terrific news! I can't believe that I may have helped to save these babies! I put a message into one of the woman who cross posts these messages, asking her to see about any potential foster homes. Im waiting to hear back and I will forward the message on to you guys.

Well, the shelter there is not cooperative and I have no idea if New Rattitude has any foster homes open right now...we can just hope for the best. I will update if I learn more.
Thanks again!

Well, every shelter is different and this one is not "rescue friendly". One of our NR people did speak with the shelter. They don't do any vetting ...won't tell us much about the dogs....but they will euthanize tomorrow at 4 pm. Let's hope for a miracle for these 3 little dogs.

MB, what about pulling and GAP'ing them? Although I guess with fees as high as that, would any rescue be able to afford that?

what is Gaping?

GAP is Ratbones Guardian Assistance Program, where the dog is in a home, but not an official foster home, usual with its owners, and Ratbones advertises and promotes the dog in need of rehoming while he stays with his owners. If an official foster couldn't get these dogs, perhaps someone else could and then offer to keep them while Ratbones makes an effort to get them rehomed.

SIGH! This situation is looking pretty hopeless. Shame on this "shelter"

I don't think New Rattitude has a program like Ratbone's GAP program (at least not yet).  Of course it would be great if anyone would go adopt one of these babies....they could then contact Ratbone Rescues about their GAP program.

Unfortunately, both rat terriers rescues are simply swamped with  ratties that need rescuing right now.

Anyone want to be a foster mom???

I know that New Rattitude does have a reHome program, and I think ResQ and RTRC do too but not 100% sure.

I know Sue, it breaks my heart every time.

Looking at the map of Georgia, this is not all that far from Altanta, Fulton County, GA. Do we have anyone around there associated with any of the rescues?
