I think he's constipated.  He was very restless last night and couldn't get comfortable.  I took him out around 3:00am and he looked so pitiful.  He didn't even try to go.  He was shivering a little and his ears were back.  I stayed up with him half the night.  He's just not himself.

This morning, he did go poo but he was straining.  I gave him a little bit of plain unsweetened yogurt and he ate that.  He went back out and did some more poo.

He's been in my lap and he looks awful!  I'm worried about him and think I should call his vet...  any thoughts??

We're going in to see the vet soon... I'm just too worried and I know I won't rest easy until a vet looks at him.  Prayers for Mario today...

Have you got some of the plain canned pumpkin to give him? If he was able to poop some this morning, I wouldn't be too worried. Hope he feels better soon!

Yep, no home should be without canned pumpkin. Just make sure it's not the pie filling, but the can that says 100% pure pumpkin. It shouldn't take much more than a teaspoon or two. It's also good for loose stools too.

Okay, we're back from the vet...
Mario has some type of stomach virus.  He had a full exam, they took a stool sample, everything checked out okay.  He didn't have a temp.  He did get two injections, one for his nausea and one that was an anti-inflammatory with antibiotic.  He can't eat any food today, just water and tomorrow he starts his meds.  The vet gave me some canned food for him to eat only for the next two days.
Mario peed and pooped on himself at the vet's office and also threw up so I had to give him a bath when we got home.  He's all snuggled up in my lap right now and shivering so much!
I need another shower, I'm a total mess but I'm so glad I took him in.  I think non animal lovers would think I was crazy for rushing Mario in on a Saturday but everyone at the vet's office said I did the right thing.  This is the first time Mario's been sick.  I hate it.

I plan on getting some today and will keep it on hand for now on...  I do always have the plain yogurt.
I was told to feed Mario Hill's  prescription diet i/d soft food for two days starting tomorrow.  Just wondering about this food.  He also has Metronidazole and Metoclopramide.  I just hate medication.  Does anyone know anything about all of this stuff??  Thanks.

That didn't take too long. He peed, pooped and threw up? Busy little guy Glad it wasn't anything too serious. Seems weird they'd give an antibiotic for a virus, but I'm no vet. Don't know anything about those meds. Feel better soon little buddy! Shannon- stop reading this and get in the shower

Poor baby. I hope he feels better very soon. I don't know anything about meds either. I'm no fan of any Hills product, the Prescription stuff or their Science Diet, but for two days I would be ok with it. It just about kills me when either of my boys don't feel right.

Okay,  that was my concern about the food... I don't like Science Diet either...he gave me a can to feed Mario...  hopefully my little guy will be a lot better soon.  He's all snuggled up with me in my bed.  I may get off here for a bit and take a nap...I didn't sleep much last night.

Sara...I did get that shower!

Sorry Mario.  I just saw this!  I've been outside playing with my mom, sister, and skin brother all day!  I'm sorry you feel bad buddy!  I'm glad you went to the doggie doctor though!  I hate the doggie doctor.  He always has those sharp pointy things and he sticks me with them.  Ouch!!!  But if they make you feel better then it's worth the little pinch of pain that they cause.  Call me on the pinecone transmitter when you are feeling better!  I love ya, dog!

Oh no, poor Mario! I just saw all this....glad you took him in to the vet. If you had waited until Sunday it might have been worse and an emergency vet.

I wouldn't worry about feeding the Science Diet for only two days - just make sure it's not on the recall list. I dont' know why they would give him antibiotics for a virus, either....personally I don't like it when drs. do that but maybe your vet is preventing a secondary bacterial infection?

I am glad he's getting some rest now, the both of you!! I agree with the antibiotic thing too, viruses are not affected by them. I dunno, sometimes I wonder if they just like charging us? lol

I would go with the Rx diet for the next two days, as your vet recommended. Don't get the antibiotics either, if it's viral??? I am a firm believer of, when in doubt, go to the vet -- especially at the beginning of a weekend. I used to see animals come in so sick and we'd ask how long the dog had been this way --- oh, 2 or 3 days! Much better to catch it early!

Huni Ain't none of us nuts... We have so much love in our hearts for these little critters its pitiful...

The love that we have for our babies makes us a SPECIAL BUNCH OF PEOPLE!!
I thought about this the other day, if the world had as much love in our hearts as we do, there would be NO strife in the world...

Thanks, guys!!  I knew you were pulling for Mario today!!
He is feeling MUCH better!  Amen!  I've been sick about it.  I HATE it when anyone I love gets sick and I know worrying about it doesn't change a thing but I still worry!!

Anyway, I called the vet back because I was wondering the same thing about the antibiotics...just from having kids, I knew they don't work on viral infections.  I must have been out of my head because I misunderstood the vet....  geez!

Mario must have eaten something that didn't agree with him.  After really thinking about it, I remembered the kids eating Oreos yesterday... I think some may have fallen to the floor and he ate them.  I found cookie crumbs all under my table when I got home.  Anyway, the injection was an anti-inflammatory/antibiotic just to be safe, he said.  So, it's not a viral thing after all.  I'm losing brain cells!!!

Mario slept almost all day and I got a nap in.  My daughter watched over my little one for me... I was just upstairs if she needed me but she had it handled.  Mario woke up starving.  He kept licking his empty bowl so I gave him a little of the canned food the vet gave me.  He inhaled it and still acts hungry.  I don't want to overdo but now I'm all freaked out thinking he's starving!

Good news is that he played a little with his toys.  He isn't full of energy like normal but I do think he looks better and feels better.  He's snuggled up back in my bed now.. My hubby is out of town for a week so Mario has taken up his spot on Joe's pillows.

Poor guy, I'm so glad I took him.  It's such a hard call to make, do I take him and it's nothing...or do I wait and it turns out to be really bad.  So, yes, err on the side of caution.

Thanks for all of your concern... Love you guys!!!

If he seems really hungry, give him a bit more food if you have time to take him out before bed.
That Oreo filling is pure fat and sugar, no wonder he was queasy.

His symptoms sound like salmon poisoning, it causes a tummy upset and then shreds the intestines. I am so glad that it is not that!! Where we are here it would be the first thing I would think of. Do you have salmon where you are?
I am glad that he is hungry, thats the first step on getting better.
