You're kidding, right? You don't know what a hose pipe is? It's the same thing as a hose.... Maybe "hose pipe" is a hillbilly term? It's what we call them here. |

So as not to confuse it with the milk hose and the juice hose?

Pam and I are from the same parts... it's a water hose. A hose and a pipe are similar but different things. A Hose pipe is just an extra word that isn't needed. |

If we're talking about what I think we're talking about...... Pipes are what the water runs through in the walls of your house, or under ground, but not to water your car or lawn. So, we call it a hose or water hose. There are of course all klinds of hoses for various things so it helps to clarify what kind of hose. (Portland Oregon/city girl LOL) |

If you tell my mom to get the "hose" she will bring you a pair of nylons. For her hose is short for pantyhose or hosiery. To me the long, limber thing you use for watering is called a "garden hose". I have no idea what a "hose pipe" is (until now) but it sounds like something rigid - I guess because I think of pipes as being galvanized, copper, or PVC.
Here in FL we have a fair amount of Spanish speakers and I used to do leak adjustments for the City (when folks find and repair water leaks I would reduce the burden of the large water bill somewhat) and I had to get used to pipes and hoses being referred to as "tubes". |

Hose... but most neighbors call it hose pipe here in South Carolina... These threads show me just how much I still am not a South Carolinian... which is good in many ways, though I'm not as antagonistic against it as I once was. I really love Spartanburg. |
