After 4 years of the perfect trained dog he has started pooing in the house. Why would he do that and could it have anything to do with the fact  that I had to have his anal sacs drained.

Have you changed his food recently? Any new pets? New people? Has his eating habits changed at all? How often has it happened?

I'm sorry I have no advice to offer on this but someone else probably will. I just want to say welcome to the site, I think you will like it here.

Have you moved lately? Dogs often "forget" their house training after a move because with dogs, some learning is location specific.

one thing I've learned about ratties is how much more sensitive they are compared to most other breeds...if there have been no changes in the home like the ones mentioned above, I'd have him checked out at the vet to rule out any possible health problems.

Buddy - gone but never forgotten.
