Here's the story......My hubby (Jamie) was walking Marley this morning and they were almost home (they were 1/2 a block from our house).  They were on the east side of our street when a neighbor's dog ran across the street and bit Marley.  Jamie picks Marley up and the dog bites Marley again!!  Jamie has to pull Marley's leg out of this dog' mouth.  The nieghbor lady comes out and says, "You should know better than to walk your dog in front of my house."

So, Jamie calls the police and they come and take his statement and then talk to the dog's owner.  Her dogs are always running around the neighborhood.  Those dogs are NEVER walked and all the owner ever does is yell at the dogs to "SHUT UP!!"

The police officer said that the owner of the other dog should pay Marley's vet bill.  He has pain meds and an antibiotic that he needs to take.  He is recovering.  The health dept. said that because the dog didn't bite a human there wasn't anything they could do.  I am going to request a copy of the police report because I want to know what she told them.

That woman sounds like a nut! Everyone is supposed to keep their dogs away from her house because she refuses to control her dog?! Aren't there leash laws there? She should at least get a ticket for violating those laws.

BTW, is your hubby acting as Marley's Secret Service agent?

I am so glad he is alright I can not believe that is all they are going to do to them. That is just not right to let your dogs roam and bother people, pets etc.

That's why a lot of the people I see out walking in my town are carrying big sticks or canes, I guess. In case they need protection from other animals or people.

OMG!! I'm SO glad that Marley is okay. As horrible as that was, thank god it was not not any worse than it was or that it was a child! Would she still have said "you should know better than to take your kid past my house!?" UGH! some people should never have pets!

Give Marley a hug for me. I hope he feels better soon.

Is his vice president signing in until recovery is completed?

Seriously though, isn't there even the tiniest scratch on your husband that he can blame on the dog so the health department will take some action? Surely there are leash laws that she can be cited for.

Poor Marley. Give him a big kiss from my fur family.

Thanks everyone.  We just took Marley for a walk and he is doing well.  The vet said to keep him moving so his leg does not stiffen up.  We did not walk past the wacko house.  He wants to play, but the vet said not to let him run so that the bites don't open up again.  Jamie said that both dogs attacked one from the front and the other from behind.  Marley actually has three puncture wounds, an abrasion, and a bruise about the size of an Ike dollar.  I think that we are doing worse than Marley.  We are VERY shaken up.  Jamie feels that he should have done more to protect Marley.  There wasn't anything else he could have done.  I told him he did everything RIGHT.

i am so sorry to hear about  Marley.

some people should not be allowed to own any animal.

thank god Jamie was there.  what is the matter with this woman? you can't go in front of her house because she can't control her own dog? sounds like shes a nut case. call the police every time the dog barks or gets out. its not really the dogs fault but it doesn't need to be in that situation anyway.

good to hear Marley is doing ok.

glad to hear that Marley is doing fine............there are alot of wacky people in this world... alot of people treat their dogs as wild animals, left outside.....tied up etc etc.... and we treat our dogs like babies..........thats why it is harder on us when they get hurt.   I carry mace on my key chain, never had to use it thank god........but if i had too,  I will.

So sorry this happened to Marley!  The threat of other dogs attacking mine just really scares me....I've actually encountered nut cases walking pitbulls that are actually getting the dog worked up so they WANT to attack mine.

Can't you call animal control to come pick these dogs up next time you see them loose?  Did they their current rabies shots?  And was there any mark at all on Jamie so that you could maybe get some help (since a human was involved?)

Glad Marley is feeling better....I just hate hearing about things like this!

I very much hope mr. marley gets better soon and the owners of that dog are punished! we carry a tennis racket with us when we walk our dogs now, to "block or knock" as my hubby calls it.

a similar thing happened to us when walking sadie and minnie, but my hubby is very stubburn. he told the lady to keep her dog in her yard period. she "had" A VERY VERY mean german sherpard mix, that has bitten at least 3 of the neighborhood kids, but of course the police and animal control said they where play bites> bull! we walked by there and the dog came running a cross the street. Jon picked up sadie. i picked up minnie, of course sadie thought she could take on the 100 pound shepard on her own, lol but the lady told us, go away leave him alone you know he does like you people, i laughed really i didn't notice. so a few weeks after that we walked by and the same thing happened, she cussed us out and yelled at us, with no attemp to get her dog at all. so we called animal control and asked them to wait on the corner, the following day. so we walked by and saw that the dog was inside, and figured well this was a waste of time, and started walking to the corner to meet animal control, no big deal the dogs inside right..... as we are walking by the house the lady walks to the front door and opens it and lets the dog out,  and yells i told you to stay the hell away from hear! he ran across the street and grabbed sadie, minnie jumped on him and grabbed his ear and started pulling as hard as her little rattie body could, i was amazed and horrifed at the same time jon grabbed the dog and pulled him off sadie. held the dog down to the ground and muzzled him with sadies leash. the nice animal control lady came speeding around the corner. and catch polled the dog and put him in the back of her truck. then walked across the street and told the lady off. made her sign over the dog and fined her $500. she paid sadie vet bill, which my vet gladly over charged me for . sadie had one stitch in her neck and was no worse for the wear. found out from animal control that she in not aloud to owner another dog for 5 years!  and the dog that is now named gunner is a police dog in northern california! so now he gets to chase bad guys and do what he loves

Oh my dear Marley!  I almost fainted when I saw this topic.  I am so glad you were not injured worse than you were!  My dear, you must take it easy and mind your Mama and Daddy and not overdo!  Oh, I wish I could be there to nurse you through this.  You are a brave, brave doggie.  And thank goodness your Daddy protected you as he did.  If I could get to those dogs, well – they’ve never seen my temper and they don’t want to.  I would bring Dixie with me and we would set those thugs straight!

Oh, I just about need to take to my bed, I’m so upset that you were hurt.

Agent Sonic, perhaps this would be a good time to do undercover work in your rooster suit.  (BTW, I answered your letter today, check the website).

Dear, dear Marley, please know I am thinking of you.

Forever yours,

K.S.

I'm terribly sorry that this happened, but am thankful Marley is going to be ok. It could have been so much more tragic. Guilty as charged....

That's HORRIBLE. What her dog did, what she said in response to what her dog did...I'm flabbergasted. And where in the world was the secret service?!

Maybe your husband will notice a ... ermmm ... wound ... that perhaps appeared after the fact?
