The dogs always wake me up to go out around 6-6:30 am...I let them out and the second they come back in, I go back to bed for an hour.  Not this morning...I let them in and the unmistakable smell of skunk followed them.  In trying to make sure everyone was in and who, if anyone, was actually sprayed, I couldn't find Lucy...I eventually found her at the other end of the house, hiding.  She was the only one that wasn't stinky, but she is so sensitive that she needed to get as far away from the smell as she possibly could.  Both Molly and Rosie were skunked and were in the tub a 6:30...the absolute LAST thing I want to do first thing in the morning.  Molly was no problem to bathe, but Rosie......if you have a big dog, you know how hard it can be to get them in the bath tub, especially when they really hate water.  I could tell that Rosie wanted the stink gone (she kept running into the bathroom and looking at me, like "hurry up!", but it was still a wrestle match with me trying to get her in the tub without getting the nasty smell on me or hurting my back...you can guess how that went.

And how was your morning?

Well, my morning definitely started out better than yours! :-) But, I did have to wake up extra early to drive my daughter into school this morning. She is on the yearbook team at school and they have a conference.....so I was up a bit earlier than normal....but doesn't hold a candle to what you went through! Glad you got'em cleaned up!

Well my morning went better than that, sorry you had to deal with Pepe LePew this morning. The dogs actually let us sleep until almost 8 this morning then it was off to do the banking, the car washing for my trip to Georgia in the morning, and the shopping. Now I'm home with busted sodas and milk because they shifted and fell out of the truck when I opened the hatch.

I hope the LePewfume has gone now and all can breathe. If not you can bathe them with tomatoes, the acid will take care of most of the smell or break out the clothespins. Hope the rest of your day is better Lisabeth.

After reading your story about the skunky pups, I have no complaints at all about my morning.

OH PEEE..UUUUU!! Sorry you had a skunky start to your day. We occasionally get skunks in this area and I always worry about the dogs getting to one. Before we fenced the yard we'd have them come right up and spray our porch but the fence has been very a very helpful skunk deterrent, thankfully. Now they spray the fence so it is still stinky but the dogs don't get hit (phew).

Today was one of my days of having my mother call and complain about her dentist. And complain and complain and complain. "My teeth, my teeth, my beautiful (cracked and rotting) teeth that he had the nerve to pull out last year.." "My teeth my teeth my beautiful teeth that..." Um. sigh.

His name is Hendryx! He's a rat terrier! OK!

So sorry your babies got skunked.  Several years ago our first dog, Misty, got skunked in the middle of the night.  It didn't exactly start out day off well.

We'll have to outwit the fiend with our superior intelligence.

Well...my SIL called and asked me up her son from school less than 15 minutes before school got out...just enough time to literally drop what I was doing and rush to town to pick him up. She "didn't feel good enough" to walk there and get him herself.
Later, I had to get a bag of kibble, so I took my sweet, non-skunked Lucy with me...the women at the feed store fell in love with her. Lucy was stressed, though, and when I said Lucy must have thought this was a trip to the vet, one of the women ran to the treat isle and gave her (really, TRIED to give her) a super special treat...they always give a treat to any dog that comes in with their human. Lucy refused it then, but the second we got home and out of the car, she was asking for her special goodies...I've never seen her eat anything so fast in all her life.

oh, yeah, and Molly and Rosie still smell pretty bad (not nearly as bad, but still...:sick...it's on their faces and ears, hard places to wash or keep the special shampoo on any longer than a split second.

Ew. This would be hard to handle at any time, but especially first thing in the morning. My sympathies.

Been there..done that
I have a wonderful solution for getting the smell off our furkids..
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup peroxide
1/2 cup water
cap of dog shampoo..works like a charm.
