Ok, so Pixel has been going to the dog park at least 5 times a week since she had her shots. We have really gotten her to be less scared of all dogs.... She seems to have fun running around and playing with some of the other dogs (she has her favs). Well last night there was an incident.
There was a very large pitbull that came in and went straight for pixel. She is a little over 8 lbs now. The pitbulls actions seemed agressive to me the way he was going after her, there was no barking or growling at her but he did have his mouth open. He chased her around she tried to hide behind me and he just kept at it getting right into her face. She was crying the whole time scared out of her mind. The pitbull owner removed his collar when he removed the leash so I had nothing to grab onto to get him away. I pulled him back several times and attempted to pick up pixel, I was finally sucessful when I felt like I pushed the pit a far distance.
The entire time the pit owner is standing there watching and doing nothing. Afterwards I screamed at him that he needs to control his dog. His response was that she isnt agressive. Well I got extremely angry and was screaming and cursing. Even before the cursing all of the dog owners except 1 (rotwiler) seriously picked up their dogs and carried them out of the park. And yet the pit owner felt they were the ones being rediculous. All of the dogs there were small under 20 lbs except the rot and a standard schnuzer pup (pixels best buddy that is ~30 lbs) when the pit showed up. The owner joked about it and said that his dog is like that with cats too.
But the schunzer owner and the rot owner went and talked to the idiot owner of the pit but im not so sure he took any of it to heart. The one told him he shouldnt bring the dog in off leash before he knows that the dog is going to be ok with the other dogs there.
I know my reaction was probably not the best with all the cursing but I was scared just like pixel, she was shaking. The schnuzer (Fib) and pixel went into the gate area where you enter the park and pixel was even scared of him, tail tucked and shaking. Mind you this is her absolute best buddy the love to wrestle and will do it for hours and even though he is large compared to her he can play gentle.
I dont have anything against pitbulls but i do against some of the owners and this guy seems to be one of the idiots that really shouldnt own any dog. The dog needs training to understand that Pixels cries meant he should leave it be. There are a few other owners of pits that go to this park that are great one is even larger than this one last night and he is not fixed and yet he is extremely gentle with all the small dogs.
I am worried now that pixel will have a hard time readjusting to having fun in there again, does anyone have any advice as to how I should handle this? Also I think at this point if I see that guy show up again I will be leaving the park.
