I have had my eye on him for a while - he has been at a local (well about an hour away) kill shelter... will have to see if this family is right for tink before i could consider pulling another one tho .... and of course if the young female HW positive gal in mansfield gets a home -there was someone interested in her today so MAYBE she will find a home...  this guy has been there awhile.. of course there is also a pure rattie there and one about 10 minutes from my home in another kill shelter...  this guy just pulls at me tho :-)

He's precious! Is his right eye damaged or is that just from the camera?

Maureen: You are in the NY area correct? If you go to petfinder, it's very helpful to just type in terrier as the breed. You'll have to scroll through a lot of dogs, but most rescue organization in areas where ratties are not prevelant or well-known list them incorrectly as chi/JRT, JRTs, beagle mixes (if they have a lot of ticking), etc.

Are any of these near you?

It's amazing all the different dog breeds that Ratties end up listed as (sometimes as mixes of another breed) because they don't know what they are! Our current foster Rex was adopted from a shelter by his previous family as a Manchester Terrier.  ..........Here's Rex: Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket .............Here's a Manchester Terrier Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I know Manchester Terriers...my sister adopted or I should say rescued one from Hurricane Andrew...They had Andrea until last year when she passed away from old age. She now has 2 rescued Jack Russel's ...one who had been in 12 foster homes. Charlotte is now doing wonderfully. I have looked at the ones in my area. Right now my son has moved in with us and they have rules about youngsters...he has a 3 mo old and a 2 year old. Now the 2 year old has been around Abby since he was 14 months old. They have kinda grown up together...and what a pair they are. We are in the process of adding on an apartment for Hubby and I, and then I will get my second Rat. Will be one full apartment with the 3 dogs I already have. I really want to take one that wouldn't have a home if I didn't take him. We have had 2 rescued Old English Sheepdogs, one we still have!

I would for sure take him if he were close enough to get to. but Texas is a pretty long drive to get a doggie.   What is the cost to rescue a dog from the shelter he is in?     He is so little and sad looking, I feel so sorry for him.  There is a no kill shelter here that has ratties, but they want $150.00 per dog for them, and they don't want them to go to homes with more than one other dog.  We have 4 now.  Three inside dogs and an outside dog (his choice not ours)  I feel so bad for that little boy.   Do they have any idea how old he is?

Are you saying that you can't adopt a dog if you have children? How strange is that?! I always had kids and dogs together, yes, sometimes stuff happens but that is why you train the child how to play with a dog and treat it. The thought that people won't allow adoption of dogs to people with children just freaks me out!

huh?? you lost me there... i didnt say anything about not adopting with kids... i agree dogs and kids are a good match if both are taught how to respect and treat each other. Does not matter tho... tink is still with me so this guy will most likely be put down before i would have room to pull him...
