Anyone know of any breeders in the Minnesota or Wisconsin area? I already have a male rat terrier and the place he came from seems to have fallen of the map. So any suggestions of rattie pups in the Minnesota area would be greatly appreciated.

Doesn't it make you wonder about the quality of the breeder if they're no longer in business??  Are you looking for a female to breed with?

Is this dog for a pet or breeding??

Frankly, I agree with Sue, depending on how long it's been since you got your male. If it's been quite a while, something may have happened that required them to "get out of the business".

Personally, I am not a fan of free classified ads for pups. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I don't believe most reputable breeders use or have need to use free classifieds. Usually, most reputable breeders have waiting lists for their pups. I would do lots and lots of investigating and questions before purchasing a pup from a classified ad.

If they paid to get the dewclaws done, they probably do not want to spend a lot on an ad. It is not cheap to get dewclaws and tails done. You have to sell the puppies for more, when you spend more on them to find them homes. They may have another ad they paid for also. Maybe they are posting them in more than one place.

If a breeder is worried about what they had to pay for declaws and tails...they shouldn't be breeding. And Tracey is right, many good, ethical breeders have homes lined up before breeding their dogs.

The breeder can't even correctly spell the breeds of the dogs? This sounds like an accidental litter or unethical breeding.

I was surprised she could not spell the breeds either. They are all pretty longhaired breeds, so why do the dewclaws? I thought dewclaws were done on shorthaired breeds, because they are not protected and can dangle and get caught on stuff. Kind of expensive for unregisterable mixes...

Great....$275.00 for a mutt (not a derogatory term as I have one and love her very much). I can foresee these dogs ending up in a bad situation as I hardly think your average Joe is going to cough up that kind of a paper for a mixed breed dog. When she realizes she can't sell them, God only knows what'll happen to them. Wondering if she "created" them on purpose or if she's just trying to make some money on accident?

This is why I don't recommend just browsing free ad sites for dogs.

Ducky- have you considered adopting from a rescue outfit or shelter - or are you set on buying from a breeder? Are you looking for a playmate for your male?

I am looking for a playmate for my male and just another dog in general. I really love the personality and temperment of rat terriers. I would really like to get a pup from a breeder, but I will also be looking into rescues of rat terrier puppies in the next few days.

Gald to hear you are considering rescue. I know that the one I just adopted thru is full to the brim with ratties right now, and I would highly recommend them. Ratbone Rescues .com (minus the spaces) I had an awesome experience. Great group of people- they really care about this breed and their rescues. Hope you find what you are looking for. Wlelcome to the site. And post pics if you plan to stick around. We love pics!!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I got my new puppy. Got him from a farm/breeder out near Wilmar, MN on Friday. He is 8 weeks old and named Anubis. Here are some pics of my new baby Anubis and our 1 year old rattie Bandit.

Anubis stretching out in the yard

Bandit stealing the new toys bought for Anubis

Very cute. I think I may have gotten my rat terrier pup from the same farm seven years ago... I've been trying for so long to find out where, exactly, it was, and Wilmer sounds right to me. The reason I want to know is that my friend is currently looking for a rat terrier puppy, and she is in love with mine. Can you tell me more about the farm? At the one where I got my rat terrier, I vaguely remember a kindly old man. There were a sea of rat terriers running loose. There was a barn with four or five different litters, all born about a week apart. Where did you hear about the breeder? Does my description sound familliar to you?
