i know this was discussed but i cant find it...

bryson in the last 2 weeks has developed low lying bumps on the tips of his ears... they are red/pink in color and are on the "inside/front" part of his ear... on the back part there is  a small spot on each ear of hair loss... looks like a "playing" scrap wound and a little dry skin/scabbing...

i know a few others exoerienced this.... what was it called? whats it from? whats the cure? is it really bad?

thank you! gianni

Jack has simliar ear issues but his are autoimmune induced. There are a few causes that come to mind. Vascular issues, bacterial infection or allergies are top on my list. Chronic ear issues are usually the number one symptom of food allergies. Other allergies can also manifest as skin (especially ear) problems. Staph infections usually start as small bumps that eventually lead to hair loss also. And last would be vascular. Seems as though it is more common in small dogs. Jack's is vascular and I believe that was the diagnosis for Katie also. I would tend to lean toward the first 2 if it is just starting, vascular issues I would think if all else fails. Ski also mentioned that he bought Pure coconut oil and rubbed it on Lucky's(?) ears and it fixed it. Seems as though while these little dogs are usually healthy, skin issues to show up often.

Mayfly had those twice. Once when she got a horrible allergic reaction from fire ant bites. Then again from food allergies....it stopped a few weeks after we switched to a no-grain food.

its gotta be the food then... he used to have markings in his ear when he was younger... then we switched to Canidae and it was ok... now we use EVO which i believe is grain free... but my wife was given another type of evo and she has mixed some in... i wonder if its the new addition... if i take him off teh food how long b4 i see a change?

Ugh I am going through this same thing with Kami right now.... We are rubbing coconut oil on her ears every night and its been about a week... Nick said last night that they are starting to look better so maybe it is helping?

Radar has this. I don't know what it is either, but it's good to know it's probably from allergies, as we know he has allergies, and most likely this isn't something new.

welll an update... we stoppe dthe mixing of foods.... so back to 100% grain free and the redness is gone, and the bumps are slowly going away... so i am confident he has grain allergies....

Sounds like you caught it in time to prevent scarring then. Poor Mayfly had it so bad that it took 4-5 weeks for it to go away and since she'd already had bad blisters on her ears from fire ant bites (she's allergic to those, too) her little ears are scarred.
