Hello! My husband and I just brought home our 1st Rattie, he's a tri-chocolate. He is 10 weeks! We love our little Zeke so much, but we're experiencing some issues that we are hoping somebody can help us with. 1. Biting in play. 2. He's humping already!? 3. Any good ideas for outrlittle teething biter? 4. He eats so ravenously! He eats it's like his last meal and eats VERY fast! hey! welcome to the site! i am still learning and will not be getting my pup until fall, but there's a lot of helpful people on here (hint: we LOVE pics!) there's also some posts on some of these topics, you might try posting in the training thread where the training moderator, nora, will see it easier

I too advise going to the training thread. The humping thing is a dominance thing and not sexual at all. Sounds like your new pup needs some manners and basic training. The health thread also is a priceless source of information on foods and feeding. Enjoy your new baby and have fun learning and training!

I, too, would suggest you re-post this in the Training Forum or ask a moderator to move it. More people will it and be able to give advice that way. Susan is right - the humping is a dominance act so do NOT let him hump any humans (you know - arms, legs, etc.). Sounds like he just needs to know his boundaries and limitations, with the humping and the biting. He should not be allowed to chew or bite any humans. Give him appropriate toys for his teething....bully sticks, Nylabone chews, etc. What kind of food is he getting? Some low quality foods are mostly filler (Purina, Pedigree, Iams, Pedigree, Science Diet, Eukanuba to name a few) so I would buy a high quality food for him. Canidae and Natural Balance are to that come to mind that are "all stages" so ok for a puppy. No fillers like corn, wheat or soy, more good, nutritious ingredients to fill him up.

I don't know yet if you reposted under training- but incase you haven't... I agree- no humping, no biting of humans! Also, bully sticks are REALLY good for teething (I don't personally like nylabones because they're nylon/plastic and no matter how closely you might watch- they are still going to swallow some) As for the feeding- try smaller portions, spaced out of a period of time. Make him slow down if he's not able to do it on his own yet. I too would go with a good quality food - if you're aren't already. Good luck & WELCOME!!

If you do not want to breed your boy I would neuter him right away. This will help with his behaviour and greatly reduce problems later. He bites because you let him... stop him now while he is little and cute... as he grows those bites will hurt. Use the same term all the time,, like "No Bite"... pop him on the bottom and use a little firmer voice,, but be consitent... you must not let him bite one day,,, and be upset with it the next... you and your family must ALL stop it. As for feeding... he probably was fed in a litter... so he gets what he can QUICK.... Show him he has a lot of food..... feed him a little at a time... let him eat that and give him a little more.. so he knows thee IS food. He will grow out of inhaling food. Like a child... he has new soft teeth,,, and he likes them... cheweing feels good. Get him a bone... do not give him leathe rtoys just to tear up.. or an old shoe.... as he does not knwo the difference between old shoes and your good ones... give him a bone that he can work on... or a rope toy,, they are very good for getting those puppy teeth out and the new teeth coming. He eats it's like his last meal and eats VERY fast! my babies did that at 1st too... it does change with age. i sued to distract fora minute so that they can digest alil but they would be right back in the bowl immediately. he prob had competition for food from his litter... now he doesnt realize yet there is no other competition that will take his food.
