We were walking this morning and a bus passing by, usually Daxter just go away to the side cause he is scared of it, but this morning he suddenly lower his body down on the grass, yelping like in pain and start shaking with his tail down.
I check the grass, no bees, I thought he got stung by a bee, and then I touch his body and he is yelping again and shiver and shaking, is he in shock? I don't know what get's into him. I carry him inside and he goes right away to his bed still shaking.
He eat his food normally, drink a bit of water, and his gum is pink but he acting so sacred and his tail down. I cover him with blanket now he stop shaking, he doesn't really wants to come when I call him, I massage his whole body to check if there is pain or sign he got stung, nothing.
I also call the vet, they said to monitor him today. What do you guys think happened to him? What should I do to make him more relax and not scared? I am calling in sick today so I can monitor him. Thanks! |

Maybe the bus caught him by surprise, and he pulled a muscle, trying to move out of the way. I think you can give ratties baby aspirin. Look at the health thread, about what meds you can give your dogs. Take care, good luck. Hope he feels better soon. |

| He may have pulled a muscle or maybe hurt his back....Skipper hurt his back once and we really couldn't tell by feeling him what it was...it took the vet to find it. Try aspirin but if he's still hurting tomorrow you might want to call the vet. |

| Thanks everyone, he is sleeping right now, when I try to pick him up he scream and yelp like either he is hurt or he is so scared. I try the aspirin, if he still doing the same I take him to the vet tomorrow. I have trainer come at 2 pm later and he will check on him too. We need to decide if we need to postphone his training due to his condition right now or move along and work on his fear issues. |

Monica,
Is he vomiting or is his stomach making a gurgling sound? I wonder if he's having some sort of pancreatitis attack? I hope he feels better soon!!

No he is not vomitting or making a gurgling sound, I think he might hurt his back probably. Right now he is laying down - curling position, when I try to put him on his back he scream, so maybe something wrong on his back. I am might take him to the vet later today, my car was broken last Saturday so I am waiting for my friend to get off her class so she can drive me to the vet. |

| Aw, it sounds more like pain than fear....the trainer will probably want to postpone until a vet checks him out. You wouldn't want to hurt him any worse. Poor little dude, I hope he feels better soon. |

Update on Daxter: He is getting better today, almost 75% back to his old self. He still yelp when I make a wrong move while he is around me, or when I pick him up. He seems got spooked and scared very easily, so I really have to be careful around him. He is so sensitive now. But he start showing interest on bird or other dog like usual, checking up for yummy food at the kitchen and his tail is up, still acting very cautious though. |

Right after I post his update that he is feeling better, I called the dog walker and she said Daxter was cried out loudly when she tried to pick him up, so I called the vet - different one and they said the same think just keep an eye on him. I am just so worried and it is really break my heart to see him like that. I did ask about the aspirin this time and they said I can give him the buffered aspirin about 1/4 pill twice a day and I did. Thanks God for the aspirin, a few hours after that I see improvement on him, he can walk more quicker and his tail is up and look a lot happier. I guess he did hurt his back muscle, since I try to pull his back leg gently and he yelp a little but not as loud as before though. So yesterday when I got home he was at the door and jump around me, he can't do this the day before. I pick him up too yesterday when we walk and he is fine. And thsi morning he is way much better. I am so glad that he almost 100% back to normal. I miss my old Daxter - my very naughty boy Thanks for all the kind word everyone. |

| If it's his back he may need a week or so of complete rest...no letting him jump, no walking, no playing. With Skipper it wasn't a muscle, it was his disk, but as long as he kept running and jumping he kept hurting. |

| I just read this, Monica... and am so sorry to hear that Daxter isn't feeling well. Wouldn't it be wonderful if our fine furry friends could talk to us? It would make things so much easier sometimes. I pray for Daxter's speedy recovery! |

Really glad to hear he's doing better, but sounds like he will require some rest to heal. Were I a vet (I'm not), I would suggest lots of pain meds, nubile young dauchsuns with short skirts and an afinity to feeding him fresh peeled grapes while he watches HBO.

Yes, he would loves that CAKE and lots of treats! I wish he can tell me what he feels Nora that would make me happy if he can talk to me and I would not have to guess what's going on with him when he yelp in pain. I limit his walk since he got hurt but I can tell he is not liking it, he always wants to go out, chase the bird and run around specially when he feels better now. I am planning on putting him on rest for another week until he completely recover. He start his training this coming Thursday. I found a good trainer that will come to teach him in the house and work on his aggresion issue and built his confidence and do some basic obedience training. |

| Aw, Daxter is very lucky to have you. You might not know how to handle all his needs but the fact that you are willing to try is wonderful. Hopefully the trainer will be just the ticket and a few sessions and several weeks (months) of consistent work will make a huge difference for you!! Meanwhile good job limiting him a bit - they tend to over do it as soon as they feel better, silly dogs. |
