Hello all!! I'm so glad I stumbled onto this site because I have a question that no one can seem to answer. My boy Jake (almost 5 years old) has caught his dewclaws on my fence numerous times, resulting in nearly ripping them off and surely a great amount of pain. Obviously, the breeder did not remove them at birth, so I have an appointment for tomorrow morning to get them removed.
I am starting to get concerned, though, because I'm afraid having them removed might cause permanent pain in his little feet (i.e. when you have something operated on, they have to cut muscle, tissue, etc. and can never put it back exactly like it was). I don't want him to be in pain the rest of his life, but I'm not sure I can take watching him suffer when he rips one of them off again.
What should I do? Any advice or recommedations would be greatly appreciated! |
