Hey everyone we are at the outbanks right now.  I have a question about Bailey.  Throughout the week he has been in the pool and been in the ocean playing.  We are having a blast.  He LOVES the water.  One problem....he has little red bumps/irritations on him.  They are on his legs, head, belly........everywhere.  He doesnt act like they bother him but I dont know what they are from.  We have been putting dog sun screen on him so I dont think that it is a sun burn.  Maybe he is having a reaction to his sun screen I dont know.  I hate to keep him out of the water because he enjoys it so much.  Has anyone had this problem before???  Thanks for your help

ps I hope Hanna doesnt blow us away........we may have to leave early

I was thinking sand fleas too (and you won't see those lil buggers either) unless it's a reaction from the sunscreen.........

I was thinking sand fleas too. I used to get bit by them when I was little and went to stay with my Grandma in Wilmington and I never saw anything on me. I just always ended up with the bites. Stay safe and head inland if it starts getting rough. You never know when they'll close that bridge down.

I am really worried about my baby. He is still breaking out with the bumps. Now he is starting to scratch them. The places are now bleeding and are a redder. I was thinking about giving him a bath and putting more hydrocortizone cream on him but he is just going to get right back in the sand tomm. I dont know what to do for him. I am just wanting him to get better. Any advice would be great Thanks

Hollie, Check and see if there is a vet or emergency clinic close by. They can check him out and probably give him some benedryl or like substance to help with itching etc.

Check out the photo ratties to see pics of Aka, he had bug bites and I don't know what they were. We are in a sandy area so it could have been sand fleas too. The anithistamine helps to dry up the allergic reaction and get rid of the bumps.

However, my vet gave me the medication and the dosing amount based on Aka's size.

If Bailey is now scratching them and they are getting infected/red then they need to be checked, I think.

Hang in there and keep safe during the huricanes.

Aloha,
Cheryl

We live on the coast and there are these little critters (I have no idea what they are - maybe a mite?) that live on sea weed that can make little red itchy bumps - Steve and I have both had them ... they itch him really bad but barely bother me.  It goes away once we shower.  Maybe that could be it?  All he would have to do is come in contact with the sea weed.. either in the water or laying on the beach.  These bugs are small and you can't see them but you know when you get into them.  Maybe he has galloped through seaweed?  Just a thought.

Okay.. I just mentioned this to Steve and he said the critters where some kind of crustacean.. maybe crabs and that you can see them on the seaweed if you look really close..

Not sure if this is the case but there you go anyway.. Hope you figure it out.

That explains alot because the other day on the beach he rolled in some dried up seaweed. I bet that is where he got the bites from. Last night I gave him a oatmeal bath and I put some hydrocortizone spray and on the really bad bites I put some triple antibiotic ointment on them. He seems better but he is still scratching. We are going home Sunday so if he is not better in a few days then I am going to take him to the vet. Thanks for your help. It is really stressful when something is wrong with our babies.

Sounds like a possible Staph infection to me Holly. Jeter had one as a pup on his head. Started out as little red bumps and progressed to bumpy scabs from itching. Defiantely have a vet check him out, he may need some meds for that. Seems like Blues are more prone to bacterial infections too.

Hey Hollie,
HOpe that Bailey Dukes is feeling better and has stayed out of whatever he got into. Every time Aka heads out the door now, I keep a close eye to see if he looks like he is getting into anything. Still don't know for sure what got him but he is much better and has been full of his old vim and vigor and fighting with Sister!! LOL

Take care and let us know how ever one is doing. I love your avatar of the two babies. So sweet!!

He seems to be doing better. The bumps look to be drying up. He still itches them but I think that he is doing better. Thank you for asking. Im glad that Aka is doing better It is scary when our babies have problems. Thanks
