¡Ay, caramba!  Our lapsit (under 2 years old) storytime is this morning and they've all arrived screaming, squalling, and caterwauling.  Must be something in the air this morning or was it a full moon last night?

I think if my kids were doing that, I'd just skip the storytime and go home.

Seriously, how does anyone have fun with that?? And are they actually learnign anything? I've tried that before, so not worth it to me... My kids can scream at home and not have to annoy anyone else!! LOL

Most of the time, the babies are pretty good. They hear stories, do finger play (like Itsy Bitsy Spider), sing songs, etc. It all prepares them for reading later. I guess they just didn't want to get out of bed this morning. When one baby starts crying, it starts a chain reaction with the other babies.

We had to ask one lady to take her screaming child out of the library. She said she'd learned to ignore him. Our librarian replied, "Well, we haven't."

Ahh Pam the one cry, we all cry phenomenom or however you spell it! LOL

When I was performing with my arts company, we got several library contracts to come do shows at the Libraries. Our first time, we thought folks would actually read the posters and not bring under 6's to our older kids show! [how naive can you get, but hey we were young and that was a long time ago!] Anyway, we finally learned to do a truncated show with about a million differnt directions we could go if there were fussy kids.

I feel sorry for the screaming child that the mom said she had learned to tune out. How sad for that child. I wish him/her luck being raised in such an environment.

Everytime I see and hear about a crying baby in a theatre, I am reminded of a show done by Danny Kaye. It was a one man show and was very popular. It was family friendly and one night near the end of the show, a baby began crying. Instead of getting flustered or upset, Danny went down in the audience, took the baby went back to the steps leading to the stage and began to sing a lullaby to the baby. According to the story, the baby soon settled down and evey fell asleep. Just as Danny ended the lullaby, he held his finger up to his lips to keep the audience from applauding and carefully took the baby back to its grateful mom.

If it is indeed a true story I would have loved to have seen that. I adored Danny Kaye and enjoyed his performances, movies and plays and have a couple of his kids stories/comedy albums. They still make me smile!!

Some days the crying ones win. I have often wanted to be able to cry like that, maybe we should join them to let off some stress!! LOL
