I'll be honest, I'm not sure what Scooter is.   We got him as a rescue and at first thought we had a Chihuahua.  Now he's a year old and is very tall.  Coloring wise he looks just like the dog on the homepage wearing the red vest.  Temperment is the key though.  Scooter is wild and wooly.  He will chase and shake to death any toy around.  I'm surprised his brain hasn't flown out of his ears yet.  He thinks he owns the house and we are there to serve him.  If in trouble he gives us what we call the "Precious Moments" eyes.  He has no problems taking on our 100 pound Lab.  He "tattles" on the Lab by barking manically whenever Lab is doing something forbidden (couch, trashcan).  He requires supreme access to our bedcovers and will tunnel underneath to make himself quite cozy.  He growls at unknown noises and can hear the neighbor child coming long before she makes her way to the front door.  He is a cuddle monster and is happiest when snuggled between my butt and the couch cushions. He loves his crate and will go there when overstimulated by child, Lab or life in general.   He has been fixed but still tends to hump the leg of the pizza delivery guy after doing his "OMG you have food" dance

So, do I have a Chihuahua with a gland problem or do I have a Rat Terrier???

Well you pretty much just described a Rattie to a 'T' that's for sure.  Can you upload a picture?  He sounds like he's the same coloring as my Dink.  (see my avatar)

Except for the humping, [my Rattie is a well behaved girl ] you have described her perfectly. I'd say you have yourself a Rat Terrier. Welcome.

That's my baby girl, Bijou and her little brother Banjo, they are Toy Rat Terriers.
