so its been awhile since ive been on, had a lot going on... and now this storm. For those who remember, i live in lafayette. Friday once i got out of class I headed down to my parents to go take care of some financial things (they live in Baldwin, one town over from Franklin aka St. Mary Parish) Saturday once it was decided that the hurricane would be heading our way, I just figured I'd stay there, as it'd surely be safer than my apartment (plus I wouldn't be alone) as they talked about it possibly being a 4 when it hit, and that it would be coming on shore possibly about 20 miles away from my parents, we decided to leave Sunday morning. Left, after about 7 hours we finally got to Clute, TX. We are hoping to head back tomorrow morning (against my better judgement) but if its flooded we may end up stranded..
Anyways, I kind of have a plea out there for those who are following the storm, if ANYONE hears anything about Baldwin, LA and/or Beau Chenes Apartments in Lafayette LA (also may be referred to as an area around the cajun dome / University of Louisiana at Lafayette Campus) PLEASE let me know. Its hard to watch all the channels and catch whats going on in different places. My apartment is not the best atmosphere and im worried to deathh that one of my huge windows busted and all my belongings will be gone before i can get to them. My aunt stayed back in Jeanerette another town by ours & sent us a pic via cellphone earlier, ill attach it, this is about 1 hour after the heavy rainfall began..

He we are all worried about the same area. I have relatives that stayed behind in other parishes that will be making a trip to Lafayette tomorrow. I they can not do it today due to weather conditions and curfews. But I should be able to get you some info tomorrow. I also have a BIL that is staying in Jennerette with his dad that is the Mayor of that town. We have lots of contacts there and have been able to get some info on damage as early as an hour ago. I will try to forward any info I can gather to you as I get them but it will not be until tomorrow. Also, we are trying to figure out "when" we can go home but we are at this point relying on our contacts and local news to find out if and when they will allow us to get back in. We are also concerned about the weather conditions around here (we are in Tyler TX) keeping us from getting back home. We expect to know more and have a better idea tomorrow. We are awaiting an update on my house because that is the main gathering place once we get back because everyone that is with me lives farther south. We just need more reports and I would highly suggest that you guys wait for facts and reports before trying to make it back. The one thing we are tyring to avoid is getting stranded on the road once we make that 10 hour drive back. We can not risk getting stuck but we are really wanting to get back so that we can save what we can. This post is funny because we are all talking about this as I talk about it. Hopefully I didn't post something that I meant to say out loud and not post... HAHAHAHHA Damb that beer is COLD!!!!! |

lol yeah a nice drink sounds good about now, but unfortunately i am with my parents and even tho i am of age, i fear that one will lead to two, two to three etc. its good to know someone else on here is in the same boat ( i guess its not GOOD, but you know what i mean) keep me posted!! if nothing else, we have friends that we can stay with here but are trying not to impose, especially since i brought joleigh with me. shes been doing good, but others that are with us are ticking me off, not wanting her to be around them etc
ps is it just me or does like 90% of the info being provided on the news seem to be about new orleans?! show some other towns too!! |

Hey I was able to get some info from family members that stayed behind and this is what they had to say: Vermillion fair good but Lafayette has some damage. I live in Lafayette and they could not get to my house due to down trees. but the parts of Lafayette that they passed through looked fairly good but they did not go as far as the Cajun dome. I hope this helps as for what you were looking for. |

| Oh the other thing was that most is without power but I have a BIL that is only about 10 miles from my home on the west side that still has power. That is located north of Broussard Rd on Kalie Saloon but South of Ambassador Caffery. As for as I know at this time, I am out of power at my home 10 miles to the east of that. I have a neighbor that stayed and I have her cell number. If I am able to get her again I should be able to get a perfect idea of the conditions of my house. I will update when I find out more. |

| alright thanks, so far ive heard that an apartment complex a mile or so away from mine has power, but theres really no telling. we called the state police & theyre saying no one should go that way till wednesday,, but to call again in the morning once they have a chance to scout out which roads need work. we got a call saying that our house was fine but that our shed in the back had some damage, my dads harley along with our fourwheeler and a LOT of tools are in there, so my dads in a rush to get back now. He almost took out our patio door to put his bike in our house lol and now he's mad that he didnt. |

Here is the lastest local news:
Stay Out of Acadiana
State Police are turning people away at various points of entry into Acadiana. Troopers are asking for folks who evacuated to stay out of town until further notice.

| well im back, my apartments fine, two large trees fell and one skimmed the back of a car, some siding has fallen off, but other than that everythings okay, electricitys on. After we checked on my apartment, we headed towards my parents, you can steadily see the damage getting worse & worse but nothing devastating that I noticed. My parents house was fine, other than debris in their yard & of course the electricity is down. They have a 4 oclock curfew there tho, I've already made it back to my apartment but they stayed back to try to salvage their food. Lafayette has a 8 oclock curfew for today through thursday, yet they have not cancelled classes for us at UL yet. St mary parish schools are cancelled through NEXT wednesday. All our family members houses faired rather well, a LOT of fallen trees but luckily none on houses. Thanks for your help donna! Now I just hope my parents get electricity back soon. Oh, they also have a few stores open in Lafayette, all albertsons except the one on Johnston & lowes & home depot both opened till 3 today. |
