Michelle,
Zip is generally quiet, likes to play (you've seen the vids and photos?), he listens well and is loyal and obedient. We were told he has some night time potty problems, but not once here (we have a doggy door and he learned it the first day), plus the dogs are in and out all day and evening. We haven't tried teaching him anything new, but he sits, stays and comes on command. He is actually a very sweet little boy. Maybe a bit gender confused, sometimes he sqauts when he pees. When he is not resting peacefully he is somewhat playful with humans and is fine around children. He loves to play with Cameo. He will bark at noises and run around outside barking at anything that moves or seems to move. He likes to sleep under the covers at the foot of the bed. When it is his bedtime he will come to the top of the covers and ask to be let in by pawing at the covers. So far he's never been the one in my face waking me up, either. I've not seen any agreession in him, he will go submissive even to Cameo when he's had enough of her. Zip is no trouble at all and we enjoy having him here. His only real problem is storm anxiety and his typical response is to go to someone for comfort. Once the storm passes he gets over it quickly. His previous family lived next door to a man that thought dogs should not bark, ever, constantly calling animal control on his skinny little butt. They lived next door to a school also, so...kids playing...dogs barking... They also had changes in their schedules and he spent most of the day in his crate. I don't think we've craated him yet, but his previous owners said he is fine in his crate. Sometimes he goes in his crate to get away from Cameo. They did say he gets car sick, but we don't have any personal experience with this yet.
He weighs about 12 pounds and is 12" at the shoulder. You can pick him up and carry him with one hand, and he can balance on one hand when you hold him. Zip is neutered, but sometimes will want to hump. He does this far less frequently than when we got him.
And YES, he and Domino would get along famously, I'm almost certain. He is better dog socialized, from dog parks, than people socialized, but he doesn't have any problems with visitors to our house. He was a little shy with the next door neighbor the other day, but took right to his wife. He's more of a woman's dog. We think his previous daddy didn't spend too much time with him and probably brushed him away when Zip wanted his attention. But again, he is perfectly fine with me, and Janie's nephew, and our best friend (when he get a chance to visit).
His adoption status is in process and pending. But there is no reason why he can't be adopted right away once the paperwork is done and we get him chipped. Right now Rattagan and Cameo have been taking priority. Also we had to get Cricket to the vet for worms. Zip is next on the foster-kid-to-the-vet list, maybe in a week or two.
Janie might have some other insights, but we are both here with the pack almost all day, almost everyday, so I see a good deal of what goes on.
I did see your other reply and I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. Where do you live? |
