Hello Everyone

I want to let all of you know that I have placed Gracie in a new loving home tonight.  I am sooooo sad..... I am crying as I write this....  I keep telling myself that this is a good thing and that it is best for Gracie.  She is now living in a home with a retired couple who just lost their 14 year old Jack Russell Terrier two months ago.  They have told me that she will be very spoiled and will travel with them wherever they go.  They have two homes and an airplane.  Gracie is actually leaving on vacation with them tomorrow.  They will be heading up to their house in Trinity county for some bonding time.   Then why am I so sad?  I can't believe how attached I became in just one week.  I keep thinking that maybe I should have kept her but I know that my schedule would have kept her locked up most of the day.  I did tell them that if for any reason things did not work out, they can call me and I will take her back in a heartbeat.

Can some of you please post letting me know that I have done the right thing?  I appreciate everyone's support and advice in my previous posts.  Thank you and believe me... I have a different outlook on Rat Terriers.  They are certainly an unforgettable breed.  I will NEVER forget Gracie!!!

You have completely done the right thing and bless every tear you shed because you loved her when she really needed it and in doing so allowed her to be loved by others........

I believe you did a wonderful thing! You saved a dog and found her a wonderful home. This is something to be proud of. I personally thank you for doing this! <> I know you'll be sad for awhile, but just remember that Gracie was saved by you and she's in her new forever home where I'm sure she will be loved very much!

Welcome to rescue, you've just experienced the happy sadness of placing a dog you've come to love in a great home. Thank you for watching out for little Gracie. You did her a great favor by saving her, keeping her safe and finding her a wonderful loving home.

You have done a fantastic thing for her. The couple sounds perfect, and has experience with terriers. She will be well taken care of.

Thank you everyone for all of kind words and for re-assuring me that I did the right thing.  The couple that I gave her to is a friend of a friend's parents so hopefully they can keep me updated from time to time.  I could not imagine being a foster mom.  I would be an emotional basket-case all of the time (like I am now... I'm still all choked up).

You are Gracie's godmother! You saved her and found her a great home where she will be taken care of and loved the rest of her life. The love and care you showed her while she was with you will never be forgotten.

Just think how happy you made that couple. Gracie will be such a joy to them as she was to you and help them feal from the loss of their JRT. You did a great job, be very proud!

You did the right thing. Do you think you will be able to see Gracie, since you have a slight connection to them? That might help you.

Thank you for the support in my decision. I probably could ask to see Gracie if I wanted but I'm not sure I could handle seeing her and not being able to take her home. I honestly regret my decision to give her up. I think I am having such a difficult time since I had to put my 14 year old dog to sleep back in March. It was just so nice having a dog that was excited when I got home and just wanted to be with me. I didn't realize just how much I missed it. I wish there was a way to take back my decision to give her up.

I'm sorry you regret the decision and I'm sorry about your 14-year-old dog. I understand how you could be so attached in such a short period of time. You saved her and you love her. I fell for Lucy the moment I saw her. You found her a new home because you couldn't spend enough time with her right?

Yes, time was a major factor in my decision. Now that she is not here, I am thinking now that I would have made the time. I could have brought her to work... maybe enrolled her in doggy daycamp... etc. I don't know... I honestly did not think that I was as attached as I was. I guess its the old saying.."You don't know what you've got until it's gone".

I don't know what to tell you to do. I'm sure Gracie's new family has already fallen for her, too. I imagine it would break their hearts if you tried to take her back. I assume you told them if it doesn't work out, that you would take her back. If you think you have time for another dog -- and when it's the right time -- there are plenty who need a home with a kind-hearted person like you.
