So, Lola is back from her spay surgery, and very upset with me for leaving her!  It turns out she was in heat and also that she's LOST two pounds since her vet visit (she was supposed to GAIN two pounds, so now we've got four to go!)

The post-op instructions say that diarrhea after the surgery is not normal and to call the vet.  Lola does have diarrhea and I did call the vet. They said it was probably caused by stress and to feed her cooked white rice, and call back tomorrow if she's not better.

Has anyone had a dog get diarrhea after their spay surgery?

No but just watch her and call the vet back if needed. Personally, I would give her some plain yogurt...I've had success with clearing up routine diarhea with that. Is she drinking enough water? I think it's probably harder on them to be spayed while in heat. JMO - maybe the others have had their dog get the runs after spaying.

i thought that they are NOT supposed to spay if IN heat... just before/after... not during... I may be wrong... just what i thought. the rice shoudl dp the trick... or yogurt... i wouldnt be concerned too much.. it could be the meds, etc... bryson had constipation and then diarhea after his neuter, but just once or twice.
