I am posting this in Contest and Just Chat, as many never look at Contests.  Thanks

After serving for - what? -  over two years, as Contest Moderator, I have decided to call it quits.  Several reasons.

1.  My husband is semi-retired and is recovering nicely from his broken back.  I want to enjoy the rest of the summer on the lake with him.  In the fall he has to have more surgery, which will keep me busy.  He will then retire full time.  We are looking forward to enjoying more time together.

2.  I am contested-out.  One contest a month takes a lot of creativity.  Some of the contests (nothin' butt, wearing o the green, name that puppy) take a lots of time.  Time I no longer have to spend with the forum

3.  I have some philosophilcal differences with this site.   I think many people are made to feel unwelcome.  From 11 year old little girls who don't know what to do with their sick puppies and read posts that could be very scarry, to people coming to look for a puppy and are bombarded with photos of dogs in shelters (they asked for a puppy) to breeders being made to feel they are terrible people.  And yes, when a woman who held her son in her arms just months ago and watched him die is treated with the insensitivity that Donna was treated with - well that probably was my final straw.  Three puppies bringing a little tiny bit of happiness to a woman who has suffered so much should not have turned into the hate-fest it was and I'm disappointed that no one in an official capacity stopped it. This used to be a friendly site - I'm afraid it isn't anymore.  I just no longer want an "official" role with a site that seems to have gotten so mean spirited.

4.  I'm not leaving the site - I'll be on from time to time, but much less.

5.  I hope that my contests over the past couple of years have been fun and you all have enjoyed them.  Thanks for taking part in them.

Everything about this just makes me sad.

From my first day here "looking for advice," you were one of the first to respond and have since sent me many private emails. I always valued your judgment and knowledge.

I do agree with you that the "tone" of the site is different than when I got here but, have come to realize that it goes through cycles. A point you and a few other veterans pointed out to me the time I got attacked (by only a couple of people, who no longer post here). Misunderstandings sometimes get blown way out of proportion.

You have done a great job with the contests and not missing a beat throughout your husbands problems, and I thank you for that. Your dedication to this site will be felt very much here.

I wish you all the very best in whatever you decide to do and support your decision, although, I hope you change your mind.

Gee, I'm gonna miss your contest "creativity", Jan. Like Bill, I hope you'll change your mind. But I can sure understand about the time thing when there are family activities and needs to deal with. I've been pretty amazed you were able to continue with everything considering all you've been dealing with the pasts few months, as Bill said, "without missing a beat". I've oft said I don't know how folks like you and Nora (with her post about all the things she's involved in on a regular basis) do it! I've felt pretty swamped during the past month and a half just dealing with Lance's family in Dallas and getting his Mom into the Alzheimer's nursing home here in Temple. You do what is best for you, but we sure hope you will stop in and visit once in awhile. It'll be hard to find someone to fill your creative shoes in the contest department, for sure.

I know exactly what you mean by the "blasting." I have lurked long enough to read them. In fact, I quit coming by to lurk for that reason. But, I couldn't stay away forever. I enjoy the pictures of the darling ratties too much. Good luck!
