Im wondering how many people here have microchipped their doggies. I was thinking of doing it but Ive also read that it can be linked to cancer which is very concerning. I'm torn as to what to do. Please help me make the right choice.

Yikes-I had not heard of a potential cancer link!!!  Daisy was already microchipped (we got her from the humane society) and so was Ally (rescue).  If they ever got away, I was comforted by the idea of having the microchip...Esp. Daisy, she's a bit of a bolter...

MIne are both chipped and I don't regret it or worry. THey don't wear their collars outside in the  yard becaue they drag each other around my them and choke each other while they play. I like knowing if they got out and turned into a pound they would scan for the chip. Puts my mind at ease somewhat. I am all for chipping.

Yaz was chipped when she was spayed. I think it is a wonderful device. I have never heard of the cancer link. Can you tell us where you read/heard this?I would like to read it.

I'm on the fence about chipping (I don't know enough about it) I wish I could just get a cute tattoo on Dink......JUST KIDDING!!!

I had Rocky chipped shortly after I got him. Our local humane society really promotes microchipping your pets and hold a microchipping clinic every month or every couple of months where you can get your pet(s) microchipped by their vet at a much cheaper price than the regular vet. If you are thinking about chipping your pup, I would suggest calling around to local shelters to see if this is a service available in your area. I also like knowing that if Rocky runs off, he has the type of chip that the local humane society uses. I also have him scanned each time we go into the vet to make sure the chip still works and hasn't migrated. For those of you still on the fence, I think that one of the first things most animal control officers do when picking up a stray is to scan them for a microchip. This saves everyone a lot of time and heartache if your little one gets loose. Our Rocky has tattoos in his ears as well. He had them when we recued him and no one knows what they mean or where he may have gotten them. I think tattooing your pet is an uncommon thing where we live. I would recommend calling around to rescue shelters and vets in your area before tattooing your pet.

Savanna is chipped. She doesn't wear a collar unless we leave the yard. I want her back if she some how gets out of the yard.  
She was done at the vets with no issue, just a quick shot type thing in her neck/shoulder area. She has both frequency chips, so no matter who finds her, the scanner will 'read' her.

I had Yogi chipped a few weeks after I got him from the rescue group.

I had to pay my vet for it or wait a month for the rescue group's free clnic....was going out of town and leaving him with a friend. Made sense to do it ASAP.

I have "Microchipped" on all of his ID tags on his harness and collar. The first line on the ID tag...says "microchipped".

Plus MY  address and phone.

I do NOT EVER have HIS name anywhere.

NEVER have your dog's name on the collar. etc.

(NOT a great idea .....if someone "takes" him they then know his name and can call him, or dispute ownership..happens! ).

And...Cancer risks???

EVERYTHING is a cancer-risk.

Losing my dog, to animal control, theft, etc...nah!  NOT gonna worry about a minimal cancer risk (IF any!)...rather be safe.

Chipping is a great thing!

Well, Mooch has been chipped for 12 years and no cancer, so..... I think the newest versions are safe if millions of dogs have them. I'd rather be sure if he got out wih or without a collar that he could be scanned and returned to me.
