OK, I know it's kinda gross, but for a while now, kinda off and on, Pepper would have mucus coving her poop when it came out. She would also have poop like soft serve half the time, so I just figured it was stress. I know they make mucus to help it come out, and a little can be normal.
I just took her out now, and she had so much mucus covering it, it looked like a sausage casing, to the point where I could grab it separately (through the poop bag of course). I'm pretty sure I didn't see the mucus when she was on the food prior to her current one. It was not happening with a terrier formula, i think it started with the farmstand variety, and now she's going to EVO. I'm in the process of switching her to EVO, and she's about 25% farmstand and 75% EVO. This is only once I've seen it this much in one pooping.
Should I be worried yet? Should I wait until I'm done switching to EVO, and see if it stops? Ami I worrying too much?
I saved the poop, just in case she needs to go to the vet. |

| You know that you are a dog lover when you "save the poop", just in case. I'm wondering if she's eaten something that she wasn't supposed to (without you knowing) and her body is making extra mucus to "pass" what ever it is? |

Geez, I hope so! I don't want my apartment filling up with "samples" though, so it better go quick!
haha, well, I guess you're saying I should give it a bit and see what happens. I think I'm still going to work on the food switch too. I hope that helps things "down there" too.  |

| I've had a few dogs that have had this type of thing before. It could be related to the food change, her body adjusting to the new food. But it also could be Colitis (inflammation of the large intestines). If it were me, I'd wait until I finished switching her over to the new food before rushing her to the vet. Just keep an eye on her, and if you see blood in the poop or in the mucus, take her to the vet. |

| It very well could be the change. The difference in the teo foods is huge. I would try slowing down the process of switching her by increasing the amount of EVO slowly. She could have a sensitive tummy and may never do well with such a high-protein, rich food. Give it some time and see. Like Lisabeth said, if you see blood or she is acting "off" then I would make a trip to the vet. |

| It could be that she got into something. Lucy had this issue not too long ago. She had a bacterial infection. She started out with an orange mucus, then moved to diarrehea and vomiting. I was told to feed a bland diet and was given a stool medicine. I would keep an eye on her. If she digresses, then take her in. It could be that the switch is hard on her as well though. |

| Just looked up, Colitis is what Lucy had. It was nasty, but did start of with mucusy poo. But it was within the same 24 hours that she switched to being ill. |

She's been switching off and on being happy and mopey ever since daddy came to visit. I will just have to go by the poop, because she has been extra cuddly lately, not wanting me to leave. As far as the food switch, i've been adding a little at a time, maybe 10% changes, then waiting for her poop to go through getting softer, then solid again. If it's solid for a couple days, then I add more. It really could be that her poop is harder, being there's less of it. Maybe her bod hasn't learned to compensate for the texture change yet? I was actually about to bump her up to more evo tomorrow, but I think I'll wait. She's been such a good girl. I don't even know if she could tell me when she's not feeling well. She changes moods so much nothing is abnormal to her.
Ah, the joys of a puppy and their poop!
Do you think the poop texture itself could have changed because there's less of it? |

| Just a thought....not saying you have this situation....but my puppy (who was 4 months at the time) had some mucusy poo and then started in with pudding poo. I took a sample into the vet and she had Giarrdia, which is an intestinal parasite they can get from eating other animal feces or from a poor water source. My dog was rescued from a puppy mill so she probably got it there. She also had another parasite (can't remember the name of) that she got from her mother at birth. After about a month of medications and several poop samples later, she was cleared and now has nice firm little poopies. During that time I was also in the middle of a food switch. Just something to think about... |

| What I don't get is that last night her poop was completely normal. This morning, it had the mucus again. I wish I could just switch her food and be done with it, then I could rule it out. |

| Mucous can also be caused by worms. Maybe her last deworming didn't get rid of all her worms? If this persists, might your want your vet to recheck her for worms? |

| Her last deworming was a year ago, when she went for her irst puppy checkup. The only way she would have them is if she got it recently. It doesn't look like the worms poop. I really want to get her through the food change, then see. If she still has it, then we'll think worms, but my vet didn't seem too concerned because she's acting normally. |

I had a min pin that had cocidia as a baby. We thought it was parvo for a while because she had vomitting, bloody, mucousy poop. They gave her some medicine and it went away. Cocidia is also a parasite. I would take her to the vet if it continues for many more days, just to be sure. |

| Well, you've already been told all the ideas I would have on it. Like Sarah said EVO is a high protein food and a big change so that could be it...and some dogs don't do well on it.....it's a good food but some just can't tolerate that high a proteing level. As long as she's not lethargic or vomiting or has blood in stool, etc. I'd wait until the food is changed over before rushing to the vet. But that's JMO, never hurts to ask the vet either! |

| Mary beth, that' exactly it. I called the vet, but I'm not thinking of rushing her there. Actually she's been a couple normal poops now. She's eating less, definately, but it's hard to measure the right amount, when you are going by different scales for each food. I think she'll be getting 3/4 cup per day once she's on the new stuff, but right now she's only eating every day and a half. I think it's because there's too much in her bowl tho. She's probably getting about a cup. I think she eats it because she's got room in her tummy. She's always been the "I'll eat when I'm hungry, and stop when my tummy's full" kind of dog. |
