We are working hard on these two commands!

My Brother-in law visited us last month, While we were having coffee the first morning , We watched Tazz, Our three momth old brat, run through the kitchen ,making a bee-line for the dog door with a huge grin! She had snagged My brother-in-laws dentures from his nightstand , and had them in such a way that they looked like her teeth, We have 2 acers of fenced yard, and she was having a great game of keep-away! I was laughing so hard I wasn,t much help, my husband was as bad as I was, for some reason Tom did'nt see the humor as we did. I couldn,t help it , every time she looked at us with that grin it was just too much !! My only regret is that I didn,t think of the video camra untill it was over.

1st off.... that is hilarious and i would pay you to see that on video!!!!

this was tricky to teach i found... we couldnt do it as a routine. we would use come, stay, drop it command at any time inside and outside. for al ong while they were ignored but if they did "accidentally" do the "right thing" for the command we praised and gave treats... now they have learned it and we have no issues. they still like to play keep away with stuff they shouldnt but if my tone chenges they know its not a game. bryson will sometimes confuse STAY for DROP IT. I would usually use both together "Bryson Stay! Drop It!" so now if i say stay he drops it and sits and waits for me. Be stern and patient and you will be fine.

I'm sorry but I just cracked up at that description!

Seriously though, the 'drop it" or "leave it" command is so valuable.  Mine have tried to pick up all kinds of nasty stuff while on walks but even little Morgandy now knows "leave it". ...last time it was used she had tried to present me with a dead, flattened bird...

Oh, I would give just about anything to see that!!! I'll have to keep an eye on Mom's dentures! Daisy is beginning to learn when I change my tone that I mean business and she'll stop and at least let me take whatever it is out of her mouth (with a little resistance). Thanks for the laugh this morning!

The first things I tought Guen was Sit, Stay, Drop it, and Leave it, I agree that those have saved not only her but my sanity.
