I am sure my baby girl Trinity is pregnant. Her vet appointment is next week where they will verify. I would like to know what I can do to help her have a happy and healthy pregnancy. For example is it okay to continute to give her the heart guard and flea medication? Can she wear a flea collar? How long does the pregnancy last? How many puppies can i expect? What is the best way to care for the new puppies! Im excited and scared at the same time. This is the first time I had a pet all my own and she is like my child. I want to make sure I do the very best job for her. Can you offer some advice please?   Thank you kindly. - Trinity's mom

Your vet can answer all your questions. Since you are asking these questions I assume you are not a breeder? Was this an accidental pregnancy? How old is she? What size is the male? (If he is much bigger than her it could cause problems.)

I would suggest posting this in the Breeders Forum. We have some experienced breeder here who check that forum.

Hi there, Yes keep the heart guard going, but get rid of the flea collar! Flea products that are safe for small puppies are Ok. Gestation period on a dog is 63 to 65 days, some longer some shorter just like people. She will need to continue her exercise and walks, but she really won't be eating a lot more until the last few weeks. I feed liver daily and eggs. You have to be careful with it too, cause liver can cause very loose stools. 1/4 cup or less at a time. You can plan on having from one to eight pups. Your vet will want to do an X-ray her last week to see how many. You need to find out if your vet is avalible if your dog needs an emergency C-section and how much it will cost. Most vets want cash up front for that. Talk to your vet about what to expect then expect to have the dog that does the unexpected. That is how it usually happens for me.

ANYTHING WORTH DOING IS WORTH OVERDOING Mom of eight, only three left at home! Pack leader to ten ratties: Maggie, Mysty, Berry, Simon, Ceecee and five puppies, Star,Sari, Bluebelle, Double stuf, and Snortie. As well as Ginger the Border Collie and a herd of turkeys!
