hmmmmm.... maybe she thought she was doing her job?  eek... i don't know if i would let my dogs sleep with me after eating a toad. lol oh, maybe she realize that it wasn't a frog that didn't turn into a handsome prince?. j/k.... |

Toads have a poison on there skin that can be VERY VERY toxic to small dogs. This comes from experience. Noodles got very very sic at about 6months old. We took her to the vets and were told she had toaditis. She got iv fluids and was sent home with antibiotic for 14 days. If she is acting sick this AM TAKE HER TO THE VETS!!!! |

wow...I didn't know toads were toxic...is it just one type or is it just toads in general? and are frogs toxic too?

| From what the vet told us ALL toads secreate (sp) a toxic substance on to their skin it is their protection. Certins toads more than others. Frogs however are not secreta but are NOT usually toxic.. i didn't know this either till my baby got Toaditis. That is what the vet called it. |

Sorry Tauney ate a toad, hopefully it was the less toxic kind. Mine have found toads but leave them alone...they much smell bad or something.
"Toaditis" ? Is that an actual medical term? ew. |

| How is Tauney this am? Did she throw up? I think I would have thrown up for her If I saw her eat a toad. Hope she is ok. |

Maybe it was a little frog and not a toad. Toads are toxic and would make her mouth burn, so I doubt she would eat the whole thing. Tinkerbelle bit one and started foaming at the mouth. I used a hand held shower sprayer to rinse out her mouth and paws to get all of the toxic stuff off. How is Tauney doing today? |

| Mitzy caught a little green frog once and i found her chewing on it (in our bed!). She suffered no ill effects from that. |

The smell (bad smell) and first lick (bad bad taste) is the initial deterent. "Toaditis" never heard it before and I tried to look it up but can't find it so it might just be what my vet calls it. Anyways it's bad.

| Yeah, it was really gross when I found Mitzy's frog because I wasn't sure what she had so I pulled it out of her mouth (GAG) and found I was holding a frog corpse...she had been chewing on it like a piece of gum...I just looked at and yelled for Bill to come take it! LOL I don't like handling dead things. |

When I was a kid I use to go frog hunting. We would bring then home for our pond. I didn't really know the difference between a frog and a toad. For some reason, since Miss Noodles Toaditis they freak me out. One was in the house last nite and the dogs were following it so I went and tried to shush it out the door, well it jumped and landed on my foot, I screamed and ran to the other side of the room. My boyfriend laughed so hard he fell out of his chair. My alpha dog (blue heeler) grabed the toad slung it across the room, in my direction I started to yell at all the dogs "GET OUT, so they left the room and I made BF get the dam thing outside. He of course had to chase me around the room with the thing first. I NO longer LIKE FROGS & TOADS!!!!

| ok all i just wanted to responde to the toad eating business. Tauney is fine she was fine all night she never threw up or nothing although she did leave a toad leg on my porch and then before i knew it my chi ate the leg.:X well i gave her puppy mints that i had bought for her and i called a 24 hr vet which is an hour away from me and she said to rinse out her mouth i did that for 5 mins. all while i am doing this my son is laughing his head off and grossing out about the whole thing.so now when i let my dogs out at night i put my son on TOAD PATROL. thank you all for your comments and concerns!!! makes me feel good that you guys REALLY CARE!!!!! |
