Hey all,

well, about a month ago, I got a call from my condo manager that someone complained that Rylee barks when I'm not home. The call came in at 7pm, and that night, I had left with a friend to go golfing. Then, tonight I got a call again, that another  complaint came in last week, also at night, also when I had left with my mom, she came over for dinner, then we went out. Now, i highly doubt that he barks when I'm at work for 8 hours, and he may or may not bark at night when I leave without company to go to the gym, store or whereever. I'm sad because I already feel bad when I leave at night after being gone from 7-3, but I can't put my life on hold every night because my dog barks. I'm annoyed that this person can't come to me instead of call the manager. I'm frustrated because I dont want to put a bark collar on him when I wont be here to see how he reacts to it. Since he doesnt bark when I'm home, it's not a behavior I can correct. I am wondering what advice you guys have, if you have ever used a citronella collar? I am going to call my vet tomorrow. I just feel bad putting some collar on him, poor baby. I love him so much, I'll do anything. I know that no one can make me get rid of him, but once the fines start coming, I will have to get the barking to stop! Thanks

I have used a citronella collar and love it. They work so well. Although, Lucy needs a little reminder every once in a while so I just put it back on her for a bit. When they bark, they get sprayed and then act like what the heck was that. They associate their bark with they yucky spray. This would be a good choice to use when you are not around. They catch on to it really fast.

I kinda know what you're going through, because when I lived at an apartment, the people below me called the police, that's right, the freaking POLICE during the middle of the night, because Molly would jump off the bed every once and awhile.  This was not just once, but 3 times.  We filed a grievance because it was absolutely ridiculous, but we ended up moving.

Anyway, I'd be just as scared as you about the bark collars.  It seems mean.  Maybe the vet has an alternative.

People drive me crazy, that's what dogs do...BARK.

Good luck,

Joy

Thanks Colleen, it helps to know that it has worked and it's not that bad!

Definitely it's not that bad. They learn real quick. So they really will only get sprayed a couple times. I just left it on Lucy for like 2 weeks, but since it's only when you are away I would just leave it on him when you are gone.
